There's talk going out of France that Perpignan's Maxime Mermoz could be coming to Australia. He has pretty much turned his back on USAP and Racing Metro is chasing his signature as well.

I found it on this website
but it's in French.

Thoughts? Are the Rebels the only team that can take him on?

I'm new on this site. I'm Welsh but have lived in France for 22 yrs and currently live in the heartland of french rugby.

Mermoz is a very talented 12, has been very injury prone and spent most of last Season off the pitch. He was developed in Toulouse but was not given a contract by them and went to Perpignan. Perpignan are having a very poor Season, even worse than last Season when they didn't qualify for the Heineken Cup. Their Coach left last Season to Coach Italy and replaced Nick Mallet. This years start of Season Coach has already been sacked ! Net result is that there's disatisfaction in the camp. Memoz contract is up at the end of this Season and I have read various articles stating his desire to 'maybe' move to France. French players are played very good salaries (ask Giteau ...) etc

I think that he may be just auctioning up his next contract or he may just take a sabatical, Michelak did much the same thing and went to Sharks and came back to Toulouse (gone back again to Sharks).

There seems to be a trend towards playing w/wide ? For example, Eng International Haskell is currently plaing in Japan and going to Super 15 at the end of that Season... so who knows ..

Hope this helps ?

PS Welsh International James Hook has moved to Perpignan and is playing 10 for them ...
