I'm a believer in get square, myself. If someone is a thug, you wait until they are vulnerable, and then you hurt them so badly they will have to clean up their act. Once you break the rules, you are no longer entitled to their protection.

And the judiciary should stay out of that sort of thing.
If it was Dan Carter giving a defenceless, prone Matt Giteau ten head shots on the ground would you still see it that way?

Now I know why NZ lost the last world cup. Henry doesnt want his players taking high percentage chances... :-\

Never saw this game but what a total farce.

Looks like the Lions wanted to play rugby and the Tahs wanted to fight.

Stupid. The belting of O'Gara was cowardly. Did McRae ever play rugby again? Hope not.

That was just after he returned from the NH. He went on to play for the Tahs (after a rather lengthy suspension) in the S12 for the next few seasons before departing back OS.

The history of this is that the Lions belted us off the ball in 1989. The whole series was a get-square. I'm sure some of the posters here were in Brisbane on that fateful day ...

If he knew how to punch he could have hit him once, there was no excuse for that many shots on a prone player.
Ja that just plain vokken stupid. A Bit of the Lions and I dont wanted to open this up on TSF, whats it with Cockette and that All Black Highlander flanker incident? Could not believe Cockette of all people flooring a big flanker like that witha kind of a moffie wack. Wasnt watching it live (was on my way to Newlands with my Oxwagon) but saw it on monday. Was thinking what Colin Meads reaction would be if he was on the receiving end of that klap. Think thats where our lot miss the boat, no way we can act that way, will retaliated in no time.

You may want a different example to Colin Meads on an Aussie board - some here still remember his incident on Ken Catchpole which kind of ended Catchpole's career. Without starting an argument about the rights and wrongs and whether there was intent, Meads is perhaps not held in as high regard here as he is by you and Kiwis!
And by the way I'm glad Thomson didn't react - he would have got binned too, and Kockett deserved what he got for being a knob.

Good morning to you, PB ... and how are you enjoying this very fine day?

I would disagree with some of the things you just wrote, but don't want to upset the prefects. So, how about a little (or a lot of) good feeling towards your brothers across the sea and especially to those of the rugby fraternity who play their game with whistle or flag?

Best regards

Biff

I suggest you consult a dictionary and perhaps Fowlers' English Usage re the word "prone" and edit your comment.

Re knowing how to punch, very few rugby (or other footballing code) players do - down around the 1-2% level. One who certainly did know how to deliver a very effective short right was Dan Crowley. I can't rememeber any rugby player who I'd ask to punch for my life.

Mr Brennan from Ireland may nominate one T Kefu, circa 1999. Not that I'm condoning that sort of thing! ;D

Thanks broer, very well this morning.

No I dont agree what Cockette did and maybe he deserve more then a week. Its more about Thomson's reaction, a way bit poofball like I think.

Dunno but if someone pot me the first reaction is to hit back, not trying to fell like a piece of dogshit and let the ref dish out the card.

Nonsense. If Crowley has been the attacker, Brennan would have been out cold ... for quite some time ... after one hit. That Brennan was still standing and suffered only a cut and a bruise is ample testimony that T. Kefu did not know how to punch.

So that was McRaes motivation, not anything ROG did?

I could name quite a few topline NZ rugby players who were/are pretty handy with their mitts, not just one hit wonders. Ive played rugby with a few of them and seen them dish out the smack.
