There was criticism in this thread of ref Munroe in this game, and he wasn't in top form was he? Of the two teams, the Lions have more to complain about: the Slipper spear tackle was a red card offence if ever I have seen one.

Yes but it was 6'

Giving a red card then would have screwed the entire game, destroyed it completely. Can't do that so a yellow + citing is the next best. I would have given that a red if it was in the 30' or later.

if its a red card offence then its a red card offence, it shouldn't matter whether its in the first minute of the match or the last minute.

One news article i read said Davies went off just before half time and Ian Prior was his replacement for the whole second half...
Surprising that Link didn't bring Taps on at centre and move Ioane to the wing instead

Also in another article, Horwill said the Munro made the right call by sin-binning him for the slap-down

Prior didn't come on until the last 10 I reckon. Taps came on first. Can't remember who he replaced. Davies maybe?

Prior, our reserve half back, came on to the wing to mark Rory Kockett, their reserve half back.

Happy with that win. Nothing went right in the first half, and 20 minutes of it was played a man down. Despite this and an opportunistic try to the Lions right after half time, the Reds kept their composure, played their way back into the game, and then asserted their dominance at the back end. Some great maturity from Cooper and Genia, Horwill was inspiring, and Diggers had his best game for the year (except the dropped catch).

The only disappointing thing for me was that the Reds did not push as hard as they could for a bonus point try towards the end.

No one seems to agree that the Lions player actually jumped a bit into the tackle of Slipper and for at least some part was responsible for his own up ending? (Not to the extent of S Fa'ainga's but, I still thought I saw him off the ground before Slipper hit him.)

Refs have got it wrong in the past - better to go with yellow and citing (to be decided later) so the game still remains a contest for the fans. Thought it interesting that Captain Horwill protests his innocence at hitting the ball where it was obvious to all including the ref that he hit the ball. Goodness gracious me, he lied !

In the context of the game its best to install a sense of doubt in the referees mind in the hope that he questions his call and may allow more leniency for ones team later in the match...

would normally agree wholeheartedly BUT this one was right in front of the whistle blower and there was no sense of doubt. The lying comment was just a bit of jest. If all players did the Right, Honourable and Ethiclal thing there would be no need for Referees at all. As if that would ever happen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Prior came on with three minutes to go. Horwill is just being polite because he is a good bloke and a perfect politician. If you watch a replay of the game you can actually here him say "what the fuck" to one of the team officials as he takes his seat on the sideline.

I was a bit concerned when Prior came onto the wing that we could leak a try down that side. I think he may not have had the speed to match it but he was against Kockett wasn't he?

Well that's kind of the point, he argued it in the heat of the battle but conceded afterwards that he was actualy in the wrong

And the South Africans aren't happy! I'm actually surprised he got off. I thought he would get a week
Thought probably 2 to 3 but obviously more to it than we saw. The photo in papers showed Slipper actually had let the bloke go. Anyway good result for Reds

Maybe the judiciary saw it the same way I did. Anyone able to get the incident onto You Tube for another viewing?
