Lions Tour 2025

And play games a 9pm at night and wait all game for a beer. It’ll be amazing!
People in irrland and the uk hate the beers in the stadium there is multiple articles about the disruption when you are watching. Big test game people getting up every 5 mins

they hate the music at every stoppage

it’s juts different they see themselves and their support for their team as part of the game
And australia sees that the game should entertain rhem

you are looking thru an Australian lense here

I am not saying ai support this

I am just saying that the deal is up in 29 tbe fiancial reality the state of the game here , the apathy from the locals the quality of opposition

means the rotation will change and it’ll be every 16 or 20 yrs here or maybe combined with another nation or somebtinb

this is the last tour to australia as we know it , as sad as that is.

The model they will be looking at is a test match at home, two games against French clubs, then travel to the SH and play 4 tour games and 3 tests.

I wonder if they are imaging a bit too much with the idea of hoards of people travelling France for two months when in reality they will fly in day of the game and leave the next morning. I assume a large portion of Lions fans have been around good chunks of Europe and even been to some of these places for European Soccer fixtures whether it be Club or International.

The tours to places like Aus, SA, NZ are once in a lifetime for a lot of them and more willing to outlay big cash to be here for a month and do tourist things on the side of Rugby.

Mate, I went to RWC23 and it was pretty much only the French that liked the 9pm starts.
It also takes you half an hour to get a beer. It's ridiculous.

Plenty of people in the UK are use and love drinking in stadiums, what are we on about. That's soft as and really just an excuse to try and look down their nose at others in very pommy fashion. They only banned it in the 80s because people were carrying on like twats. Plenty of the UK/Ireland are sad the way they approach the game which is definitely not pushing the game forward to the rest of the world. They'd be happy for more stoppages and everyone better be absolutely silent while we watch another penalty goal. Love seeing an offended bloated face when someone makes noise during a kick for goal.

Any full length tour of France seems entirely ignorant of the Summer weather through this period - there have been multiple days above 35 degrees in Paris alone this past month, and it's reliably hotter in the south where a tour would be expected to focus. While games played at 9pm at night might be less affected by the heat, training would become incredibly difficult for these squads and the risk of the tour being derailed by fairly predictable weather patterns would be much too significant to just ignore.

That's before you get to the likely opposition from South Africa and New Zealand to such a move - not out of any charity or love for Australia, but it would further damage the July schedule for SANZAAR nations in that period and either push out their hosting of the Lions by another 4 years in the cycle or (if Australia was to be skipped) come with the risk that they could be too in the future.

There's a lot more chance of Argentina being added to the schedule as a full touring destination than there is France right now.

I was sinking beaucoup de beers with the French in at their RWC games what's he on about? You can't drink at soccer matches because they're barbarians but rugby is all good.

Some rugby people in Britain & Ireland define themselves as doing whatever the opposite of soccer people do. "Respect the kicker" stuff is laughable.

That’s my exact point they can travel in camper and and ryanair

so it would be a far greater money spinner

Its not me on about John o neill I’m just telling you what the north admin think

you are shooting the messenger here

Not shooting the messenger, I’m disagreeing with someone who’s offering an opinion.

I also think you’re missing the point, you can’t claim ‘money talks’ and then completely miss one of the biggest factors which underpins the lucrative nature of Lions tours, which is tour packages, government sponsorship and investment through tourism from people staying in hotels, pubs and restaurants. Ryanair, Camperfans and one night trips over to France aren’t the money spinner you think they are by comparison.

Fact is this Lions tour will be the most lucrative and highest attended in history.. money talks….

also not sure what JON did to you 25 years ago that you still hold a grudge, seems a bit petty. If you’re just a messenger, show me which UK/Ireland administrator has said they’re still upset and hurt because of what JON did 25 years ago lol.

Interesting, I was chatting to a Scots fella over here during week. He here visiting brother on the way over to Aus for a couple of tests etc. He said the talk a few months ago that there were changes coming up after the contract renewal in 2029, and a bit if groundswell for France. Not sure how much, but he said a hell of a lot of supporters can't afford coming down here etc and as was shown in game at Dublin against Pumas, they real keen on supporting Lions.
As I say he wasn't saying any done deals etc, just the talk in some of rugby, and people getting hopeful they can follow them by either flying in and out for weekends, or just hiring camper vans and taking them across channel etc. Also said the feeling is France is seen as a strong rugby nation, and that is still the main appeal of these tours, Lions against top teams etc. So maybe we will see them downunder say every 16 years etc, mind you at my age, once I see them in NZ in 29, I not sure I will be worried about the next one. :D

Just a miserable bunch of people.

Here's a prime example of never being happy with anything. Old mate was complaining on the lions tour facebook page of being "stuck" in Noosa......

The bloke is in literal heaven and still finds something to moan about.

To be honest that group is largely positive and shows why the Lions tour will never be taken away from Australia. We're a country that can provide a type of month+ long tour that other rugby nations can't. Looks like they're all loving Australia and shocked how nice we all are. I often think they fucked up the penal colony location and should've had them reversed.

Would guess the Paris equivalents of Tourism Australia wouldn't offer much of a subsidy to play there in July

This is not the forum for it but that group also reminded me of the economic decline of the UK (and the rise of Ireland). Aussie household expenditure is over 2x that of the average UK one and our disposable income is nearly 1.5x as large as theirs, and it shows. This trip is so much larger and rarer for them than it would be the other way round. Also anecdotally I've noticed so many more Irish backpackers than say Scottish in the past few years despite them having a similar population. I do not envy the policy makers of the UK.

Absolutely they wouldn't; the value of the Lions tour to Australian states and tourism is disproportionately more than it is to Paris, for a variety of reasons, including the proximity of the UK and the length of time the tourists are visiting, and the proportionate value of tourists to other events.

The argument that fans could just pop over on Ryanair flights for the day or weekend to watch the Lions play in Paris is exactly why it's not worth as much, there's a massive disparity in the per-capita spending their which directly translates to the economic beneift received by the local market, and subsequently how much the government tourism bodies are willing to throw at it.

I'm highly skeptical that the players would be hoping that the tour gets substantially harder, particularly in the early games.

The most popular tourist destination in the world would be keen to throw money at getting a slight bump in tourist numbers during a peak tourist season? Doesn't seem overly likely.

Given the Tour De France is currently going on, I don't think the French would care for another 10-20,000 going to a couple of major cities
