Lions Tour 2025

The public are paying a premium to attend premium sporting events.

I get where you're coming from but I don't really agree that the bulk of players should be released. Certainly more could be released for the Force game right at the start of the tour but the closer it gets to the tests the less likely and less players that should be released.

I don't think it works to have a player in the Wallabies squad for most of the week and then releasing them to the Super Rugby side for the captain's run the day before the game. You either have them prepare with the team all week or you keep them in the Wallabies squad. Otherwise you're compromising both sides.

I also think if you are releasing the bulk of your players outside of the 23 you're basically locking in a matchday 23 when the squad assembles and making it hard to change that until after the first test. Is that really the best preparation for the series?

Why should this time be any different to previous series? I want Rugby Australia to prioritize winning the test series. Everything else is secondary to that.

Not sure what you are looking at but cheapest tickets in Sydney for Tahs is $129 up to $250

Based on history, I reckon everyone should get used to the idea that....

a) only the fringiest of fringe squad players will be released by Schmidt to play for the Super Rugby teams, and

b) the Lions will win most games pretty easily, with possible exception of their dirt tracker games while the test matches are on. (Edit and unlike previous years, these are the invitational sides, so probably even these one)

By the time you get to the end of the series, between a few players getting released from the Wallabies squad for the tour matches and some changes from test to test almost everyone who is healthy will get to play the Lions.

There will undoubtedly be a handful that miss out altogether and that's unfortunate but I also don't think it's something you can ensure doesn't happen without making compromises in various places.

And Waugh has officially put it to bed:

A bit more detail around the selection for those games too:

Au/NZ team: All players must be currently eligible for Australia or New Zealand.

Pasifika/Indigenous team: Squad to made up of current Australian super squad members, with some Drua and Moana players to be called in if needed to round out the side.

So Folau is not eligible for either side, even if there wasn't a bunch of other reasons not to pick him.

We've got the Giteau law; is this the Folau law?

How many people in western Sydney can justify the price no wonder our Code is struggling and kids go to league unless they go to a poofy elite school. Open your eyes rugby Australia plenty of talent west of the Anzac bridge

Mate… state of origin tickets are more… NRL GF tickets are more… As ghost mentioned the Tigers are charging only $15 less then then the Tahs for people to sit on the hill at fucken cambletown..

As for using the term ‘poofy’ as an insult, pull your head in, no need for bigoted crap.

I mean maybe if you were charging $59 dollars a ticket in 1989. You'd be lucky to get a loaf of bread and a pint for $59 these days.
