Domestic rugby is NZ just doesn't have the dollars, even worse in Australia. Perhaps if one could find some super keen financial backers but all the key population centres in both countries are taken.

I can understand why you wouldn't understand this, given rugby's climate in South Africa but it just wouldn't work.
Why wouldnt it work. Sanzar complete change Super Rugby when they decided on the conferense system and 15 teams. You watch this competition change to a S100 in years to come.

Yes but there just isn't the fans, any further franchises in NZ or Australia would be taking another's fans and SANZAR would be shooting themselves in the foot.

The NPC is viable because it is a short (and thus cheap) competition. It certainly isn't profitable.

This isn't even mentioning the fact Australia just doesn't have the player depth, I suppose NZ does though.

Well they have done that since the start of Super Rugby over the years. Sanzar dont believe in quality Boet, then we still would had the S10. The NPC isnt profitable because of overdose of rugby , the exact direction Super Rugby is going. 2013 we are going to have the S18 and pretty sure thats the only reason Marinos and Saru sold their rugby soul in agreeing to the Rebels inclusion. Murdoch wants more matches to sell to TV to give more money to Sanzar and it wont stop here.

We'll have to disagree.

NPC isn't profitable because putting professional teams in areas of in some cases under 70,000 is an insane idea.

The prospect of there being any more teams in Australia or New Zealand is pretty unfeasible. Let's remember NZ only has the population of Sydney, an area currently supporting only 1 Super team (and that isn't counting country NSW either). The issue isn't diluting of talent it's the viability of the teams existing full stop.

And Australia have teams set-up in all the major cities where rugby is even remotely popular, I mean I love Victorian rugby but rugby is the 3rd most popular football code here by some margin. There just isn't any room for another Super rugby level team in either country.

There is no doubt in my mind the Kings will play Super rugby, but it won't be because they add another Aussie and Kiwi side.

Do you mean note? I know English is your 2nd language so just checking.

There are sports around the world that have leagues with irregular conference sizes that manage to deal with it, I'd imagine this is the most feasible option.

This topic is often bought up on sites like the roar. Lots of different ideas have been suggested in regards to super rugby expansion.

At the moment I think the most likely outcome will be a s18 with the kings, a central nz team, and a combined pacific island team playing in the Aus conference.

We don't have the depth to field 6 good teams, and we don't have the money to achieve artificial depth through buying foreign players like they do in the north.

Another idea suggest was breaking the comp into 2 conferences of 10 with an even 5/5 Australian New Zealand split in one conference, and a 6\4 split between South Africa and Argentina in the other. Then have a combined finals series (Top 8?). On first glance it seems this would hurt SA rugby more than it would Australian or NZ. But i'm not totally adverse to the idea.

In afrikaans we call it "Maak 'n knoop" to remember stuff. Direct translation "Make a knot in your cock".

Well, at 9am SA time, the Lions will announce the signing of Butch "The Bitch" James as the new acquisition for the Lions. Also in the pipeline is BJ Botha, but that is still on going.

Butch To Joins Lions in Early May

After months of speculation and conjecture, the GLRU have finally secured the services of the Rugby World Cup winning Springbok and champion of the “Stiff arm tackle” – Butch James.

Butch has become somewhat of a cult figure for both the Sharks and for Bath and although some consider him to be well past his prime and a little prone to injury, he still has enough gas in the tank to give the backline some strong forward momentum and unchallenged aggression in defence.

Butch has made it very clear that he wants to be in the 2011 Rugby World Cup squad and will be out to prove a point to both critics and selectors.

The entrance was grand and fitting for a player of Butch’s stature where an “MTN yellow” carpet was rolled out for him to walk down in almost Hollywood style but the biggest statement of all was the Lions Rugby jersey that he wore as he confidently greeted the media. It would be most interesting to see whether the number 10 or the number 12 will be printed upon its back.

The negotiations between the GLRU and Bath have now been concluded and further details will be disclosed in due course. It is however confirmed that Butch will be released early and can be expected to run on to the field for the Lions in “Early May.”

One thing is for sure that both Butch and MTN have nailed their colours to the Lions post and we wish them well and success and look forward to the part that they play in these extraordinary times.
Wish BJ will sign with the Stormers.

Its appropriate that Butch got the yellow carpet. He was still running into ball carriers then grabbing them after contact for Bath this year.

Jantjies is still lining up and Bitch will probably get into the 10/12 jersey. They also have Pretorius. Vermaak will wear the 9 jersey.

They are grooming Elton it looks like. He will feature, I think JM want to slowly introduce him to Super Rugby. Besides BJ will only be at the team from May and then I don't think he will be much involved anyways. If rumors are true then Bitch will be quickly involved in the Bok squad.
