This news that Pangai Junior was in talks with the Brums is bizarre and I hope more delusion from him and trying to drive a price up over the Brums actually talking to him. Even if they did surely RA weren't willing to chip in for that clown and it would have collapsed.

I reckon his manager reached out and they were polite enough to listen. "Talks breaking down" sounds like a stretch.

What impact will R360 have? Will it be sanctioned by world rugby?

No impact until they start actually offering real contracts to players.

When they do, I think the contracts will need to be larger to really attract the top players. Rugby is obviously very different to cricket both in terms of how close together games can be played and the ability to squeeze extra games into your schedule. This competition would need to become the main employer so players are in a position to bargain with their current employer(s) to do both etc.

Is it likely that players will still be able to play R360 and play test matches. If they can do both I think it adds to rugby if they can’t it will hurt the game

'If' this proceeds...

Then I think rugby union in Australia is likely to be destabilised proportionately more by this than the NRL, NRL can handle 5-6 stars leaving; for Australian Rugby that's a body-blow.... Especially as R360 is rumoured to overlap with Super Rugby and the TRC.. The organisers are reportedly doing it with complete disregard for existing global calendars and will be marketed and structured to suit the more lucrative markets(which isn't Australia)..

They're talking about $2m USD (a touch over $3m AUD) a season for the top guys. That's pretty huge for a Rugby be it Union or League.

Yet the uplift in performance potentially to the national side may out weigh the drop off in Super Rugby. The only fans left are the most loyal rusted on fans as it is when it comes to super rugby

They have said they want to keep plauers available for Test Rugby. Issue is around the RC. Perhaps it could be moved to align with the 6Ns to address that.

So it may not be as disruptive if players that go are still available. And I could see the apeal for the likes of RA if that is true. Let whichever Wallaby players go and earn big money and pocket the savings on the top ups. Coukd even take that money and looking to bolster retention or redirect to grassroots clubs.

But so far they haven't actually offered anyone anything remotely concrete.

It's all just expressions of interest in the event it happens which is why no rugby stars have signed up.

I'll believe it when they actually start scheduling games.

They’re also not available for the TRC under current schedule

As for Super Rugby, never underestimate how much further things can fall..

Super Rugby and TRC account for upwards 70% of match-day and broadcast revenue, could say similar about sponsorship.

it would be incredibly disruptive if R360 took the best players out of those, not just for Australia but NZ, Fiji and RSA.

Stan and sponsors aren’t going to pay the same if it’s missing the to 30 marquee players.

This doesn't seem like an unsolvable problem. The RC currently clashes with European rugby and Argentina still get their players released for it.

R360 will either have to release players in that window or there'll be some negotiation to adjust the calendar one way or another. If the core of the Wallabies and All Blacks end up playing R360 (because money talks) then maybe Super Rugby can have a longer season. Whether that balances out the loss of star players who knows.

It definitely raises issues but so did the IPL. It’s an interesting concept I am not sure if it will be good or bad for the game

It's still a problem though, and back to my original point, R360 will be more disruptive to Australian/NZ Rugby than it will the NRL or NH.

Something would need to change(potentially change the entire calendar) for it not to cause a detrimental impact to rugby in Australasia and SANZAAR more broadly.

For Australian rugby there is the potential for it to be positive simply because it may strengthen the Wallabies. If the money on offer is similar to what's being reported then a few of the very top NRL players (at least those most suited to rugby) will switch. A handful of Nathan Cleary tier players switching over, just in time for a full year in the sport before the 2027 world cup.
