League Targets

He won't ever be short of offers. He's got great talent but also injury prone and not consistent with it. Could be a Newcastle problem though...

He's got one of those deals he can negotiate yearly right? He'll be pretty high on a list for a side like the Bears as his name does draw attention. He'll be getting NRL deals worth 1.5m/yr so Rugby might be praying on a desire unless he's big on Sashimi. He does give similar vibes to QC (Quade Cooper) though in the lifestyle branding being a bit part of his future. Social Media, YouTube, Fashion etc... Japan gives a nice aesthetic for it.

He wanted to play for the ABs originally. So, he'd be taking a big pay cut to play super rugby over in NZ (would they offer him an AB top op? have no idea how it works). IMO, Career wise he'd be better off making the switch so he can transition to Japan and play for longer.

In a bit of a weird space at the moment as he hasn't committed to playing for the Kangaroos which tells you his loyalty. They recently let anyone who played for nations in the RL9s WC can re commit to others as future tournaments have now been cancelled. AJ Brimson is looking to be picked for GB in the RL Ashes. Ponga played for Aus at the same tournament so can now commit to NZ but don't expect that until after SOO as he'll have to give it up if he does with NZ being a tier 1 nation.

He also has the pressure of Reece Walsh and the hammer for the QLD no.1 jersey long term. Then there's Newcastle being not close to a Premiership.

He's 27 now so can probably have a couple short big contracts or sign one monster which I could see Perth Bears offer a bloke born in WA a 4 year 6m deal. Bit like a JAS for Rugby that he's a guy that helps media especially in a non traditional market, kids like him and when he's on he is a world class player.

I thought he pulled out of the Kangaroo squad last year and there was this big controversy around it. I know during school he wanted to be an AB and they reportedly tried to get him over before he chose league. But yeah the Bears will make it interesting. He could cash in there but he wouldn't be close to getting a premiership. With the battering he takes in league he should be seriously considering a switch to rugby.

Didn't want to be selected because if he got a game he then wouldn't be able to play for the Kiwis in the future. Seems his attitude led to Mal not picking him anyway. Pissed people off because it was framed as caring about the Knights and his body but it wasn't since finding out they were hearing the appeals from players involved in the 9s was at the same time.

I'm interested to see what he could do in Rugby. Been a long time out now and his kicking game in League is only ever a short game for the last decade.

He's on a two year extension signed last year so he's free to negotiate this year being one from the finish. It's a smart play for a guy at 29 in form as he can squeeze probably a 1 year from the Roosters then do it again at 30 and hope to get a 2-3 year deal and stretch your prime earning years.
If he'd signed a 3-4 deal last year he puts himself in a bad position at 32 trying to get a deal. With new sides coming in these senior rep players are going to be able to add at least 150k to their price and a guy like Chrichton would be a great pick up to establish a pack for a side like Perth.

Chrichton not going anywhere. Chooks will never let him go, even if they do, he's playing too good to swap codes.

He won't swap codes but a change of sides isn't off the cards. He did start at Souths... Especially for a good chunk once on the other side of 30. Dolphins picked up a bunch of long term Storm forwards to get them off the ground. He may stay at the Chooks but they also have a heap of young talent coming through that could use that cash to retain.

Well, the likes of Brad Thorn and Sonny Bill are big-name players who were playing good football at the time and then decided they would switch codes. It's a real possibility that Crichton could come back to the union, if Rugby Australia throw a solid amount of money at him, there is a chance that he could come back to the union. Look what Joseph Sua'ali'i is doing as of right now.

JAS was 20 and Crichton will be 30 at the earliest he'd see the field. Very different.

I would have loved RA to have got him a couple years ago and supported the use of the cash but at this point RA needs to use the money on retaining our own players and building the base. They did throw a bone out there but with the condition of him going to the Force to which he seemed to kill off the inquiry.

He'll be a great what-if like Ben Kennedy who also had a Rugby background.

Gus would have to want to do it off his own back at this point.

Well, every year there is speculation, Cam Murray, Angus Crichton, Hell even Valynce Te Whare and Joey Manu in the Japan leagues, it seems as if there are constant player swaps. I just don't see any league players moving to union, it's sad but league is becoming the biggest form of footy in Aus.

I've always thought this wouldn't be the worst idea in the world. He'd be mad not to consider. He's been in the Penrith / NRL fish bowl for a few years now. Time to see the world and experience something seriously big around the world. Players have egos and a potential RWC I know for a fact they would love to be part of something that big.
