League Targets

Billy Smith officially heading back to the Roosters.

Bugger.
That was one I was hopeful for. Had heard nothing but with his history it felt legitimate.

Wouldn’t write Crichton off yet. Roosters still want him moved as I think they thought he’d go. Maybe if RA could make another approach from point zero and see… might need a new Wallaby coach before we hear of anything.

Yeh when the Crichton deal fell apart, I actually thought Smith was a decent chance because they are still very stacked for 2024.

I imagine Crichton is on the way out still, whether to Super Rugby, overseas rugby or another NRL club I am not sure.

Extremely left field and probably stupid but I see the Tigers have told Ronnie Palmer they aren't renewing his contract.

We haven't been top of the field in a lot of our fitness and I think we could do worse than a bloke like that being around the field in conjunction with the S&C gurus who make you want to watch paint dry as they talk about their PhD idea. I'm sure another NRL side will throw him a bone but we seem to lack those 'footy people' that can create an atmosphere or motivate.

Could be an asset but I think S&C is the are we most need to get centralisation in order before making any big moves. It's easily the most 'centralisable' facet of high performance and probably the most important component in the immediate term. Lots of moving pieces to get into place with the states/super sides all feeding into a national setup though.

Someone with Palmer's experience would probably only be a consideration at a national level, not sure he'd be suited to work a super program when it was all run from the top. Could be that he's the right guy to run things there, though I'm a little skeptical. Might be most valuable if he's looking for something in more of an education/coaching development space though.

I know we're talking about recruitment from league but after watching some of the athletes in the NZ 7s side last night I wonder why more NRL sides don't target these blokes. Look at what Will Warbrick has done. Imagine Che Clark running on an edge or a young Regan Ware. They are big, athletic, can tackle and have much better skills than most leaguies.

Pangai Jnr’s boxing career may be short-lived
possibly now heading to the Dolphins
maybe he’d stop by Ballymore on the way

This thread can work in reverse as well.

Could end up replacing his brother as he’s pretty average.

Released from his contract with a year left. Wonder if anyone will look to bring him in? Wasn’t Super Rugby standard when he left but he’s put on some size since playing League.

I’m sure Randwick will take him back.

Tyrone Thompson is a future All Black hooker, no way is he switching codes.

He has been outstanding for Hawkes Bay and is starting to make strides at the Chiefs.
