Excuse my ignorance but what grade do these guys generally play?

The two I know are Fitter, ex-Wallaby but when I last saw him play 2 years ago a bit past it, and De Guingand, Uni Colts and occasional 1st Grader in 2011. So I'd say it's a massive mix.

It's a shame Melb Uni don't enter a side in this tourney, they'd go ok.

Sydney Uni are playing two Grade trials and a Colts trial against Tuggeranong Vikings at Bowral on the same day so it is a mixed side of uni students not all of whom are studying at Sydney Uni. About a third are Colts age.

The scrum will be strong. Fitter of course was a renowned scrummager and young Alasdair Ryan is one to keep an eye on. He has potential and has been training very hard in the off season. The back row of Frazer, Melrose and De Guignand are young players who are more than useful.

UQ os sending a mixture of grades and colts (which in Qld remember is u19). There's a team of mostly Premier grade players playing at the Manila 10s this weekend also, but all the same, hopefully the boys will be competitive.

The 2012 Laffan Cup & AURU Selection Trials were held at the University of Western Sydney, Richmond on the 17th of March 2012 with over 250 players attending the campus in an effort to win selection in the AURU representative team to tour New Zealand & play NZ Universities later this year.
