I see no reason not to reuse the rough backline we played to beat Wales in the 3rd place playoff, and then again in Cardiff:

9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Ioane
12. Barnes
13. Fainga'a
14. McCabe
15. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)

I reckon you play that on Saturday. For Scotland I would play the same backline, except maybe bring in Harris for Barnes.

Does Cooper seem at all hesitant? The tiny bit I've seen of him would suggest not. Since he's at a point where the issue is almost entirely mental if he's not hesitant he's good to go at test level.

I like it but would have McCabe at 13 and a more creative player on the wing maybe shipperly or tomane.

I'd take Digby below his best over Shipps and Morahan. Dropping him is crazy. Think he has had very little opportunity rather than being out of form as such.
Also, why did Lucas miss out?? He could have been very valuable now.

9. Genia
10. Barnes
11. Ioane
12. McCabe
13. Fainga'a
14. Tomane
15. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)

20. White
21. Cooper
22. Foley

I'd love to see Cooper at 10 but its prob too early. Would he be able to play 15 and move AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) to 14?

I could live with that given the current injury issues.

I have heard that Lucas was picked in the squad but is injured and could not join the group. Can anyone confirm?

Ma'afu to slot into 10. Although they would have to wreck two perfectly good jerseys just to make one that would fit him.

The curse continues...

Do you know what this mean?

Barnes is going to play the best game of his life this week... and then break down...

Let's work out our best back combination for the Welsh test and look at who's left for the Sweaties. I'm delighted someone else (GaffaCHinO) reckons McCabe's worth a run at 13, I certainly do. The Scots shouldn't present us with too many problems.

For the Welsh:

9. Genia
10. Cooper
11. Ioane
12. Barnes
13. McCabe
14. Tomane
15. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)

Barbarian said the same thing.

Hope it is right. Still bad luck but he deserved a spot and would probably have been capped now that KB (Kurtley Beale) is gone.

Last i heard he was going to Canberra and would be assessed on Friday. All of a sudden Murphy is on the bench and i did not think he travelled with the rest of the squad. Would be reason to speculate that he has made it worse to now be out for the tests given what we know and were told in the lead up to Saturdays game.

Another consideration would be goalkicking. A guy like Mike Harris might get a spot in the run on team, as it would look like only Barnes and Cooper are the only goalkicking options left. And lets face it, Cooper kicking for goal is in no way optimal, and Barnes does not yet seem fully confident to assume the duties.

Considering goalkicking, and factoring in Deans logic, I would not at all be surprised to see a backline of:

9. Genia
10. Barnes
11. Ioane
12. McCabe
13. Horne
14. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
15. Harris

Hasn't Harris dropped off to around 77% or something? Might be wrong but from memory that's what Foxsports were displaying on the weekend.

Harris dropped off, then hit another 13 in a row since then.

That's brought him up to 78% according to Foxsports. Hardly a glowing stat if he's to get selected there for predominately for his goal-kicking. I remember the majority of posters here fuming when O'Connor was given the goal-kicking duties with a similar figure not too long ago.

Unfortunately, we are not really spoilt for choice at the moment. Harris might just be the best we have available. Unless you want Ma'afu kicking for goal. :p
