Bullrush - it's hard to say honestly. Evans is the gun flyhalf of the Premiership - but how does that relate to test match rugby? One thing I'm sure about: he would have been heaps better backing up Carter than the Duck in Hong Kong.

It's not to the point really but there's a few players who are definitely better rugby players than when they left Oz, though they never played for Oz in a test match: flyhalves Paul Warwick, Dan Parks and Brock James. As I've said a few times: I'd play either Warwick or James in any Wallaby game in poor weather and ground conditions if he were kept in reserve for an EOYT squad in a parallel universe. We don't have that kind of flyhalf in Oz; Barnes is nearest.

I don't think the All Black jersey should be open to players who want to play outside Super Rugby. I'd be happy for All Blacks who were playing in SA or Australia in Super rugby to be selected but outside that - no. The domestic competition in NZ could possibly be seriously ravaged.

Anyway, I'm yet to see anyone come back from the NH teams and actually be a better player. Nick Evans was an average AB before he left - not sure he would be any better now.

Elsom? Wouldn't say he's worse.

But he definitely took a while to come good again, even if he did carve up while he was over in Eire

It took until this tour.

Exactly. And even now I would be ad loathe to say he has returned to his best. He came back a shadow of his former self. Just shows the gap between NH Club Rugby and Test Rugby.
