With JON potentially going-going-gone, as an outsider looking in (as most of us are) I wonder if RD is updating his CV about now?

The Reds are coming!

New CEO, new coach?

New Quade?

I think I would prefer new CEO, new coach, and maybe no Quade.

Thanks for taking one for the team, QC (Quade Cooper). See you in a couple of seasons when you fall out of love with SBW.

It's a shame Gallop signed up with the FFA recently, as an Old Boy of Canberra Grammar he'd be more familiar with the environment in rugby than soccer. His no nonsense approach to mungo scandals and misdemeanours has been exemplary, not that there's as much of that in rugby but I like his style. There again, Matt Carroll's done a bloody good job as 2IC to JON, his organisation of RWC2003 in Australia was flawless. Wasn't Carroll in the running for the top job at the iRB?

From the Herald

John O'Neill has stood down as chief executive of the Australian Rugby Union (ARU).
The decision comes earlier than O'Neill had originally forecast in the wake of the Wallabies' semi-final elimination at last year's World Cup when he said he would not continue beyond the end of 2013 when his current deal finished.
It is the second time O'Neill has moved on from the job after leaving the ARU in 2004 and then taking charge of Football Federation Australia before returning to rugby in 2007.
The 61-year-old O'Neill and the ARU board controversially re-signed Wallabies coach Robbie Deans for a further two years before the World Cup, so the New Zealander could take his side through to the British and Irish Lions tour of Australia next year.
ARU deputy chief executive Matt Carroll will act as caretaker CEO while a global search is conducted for his long-term replacement.
O'Neill is confident he has left the game in good shape and hopes his successor will be able to lift it to new heights.
"I believe the key planks necessary to drive that development are in place, allowing my successor to build on the solid foundations rugby enjoys and take it to the next level of success," he said in a statement.

I thought JON's assessment of where things were at was pretty good. He was unusually frank and I think was pretty realistic in his analysis.

He was right to fob off the question about Super Rugby results in 2012. The ability for him or the ARU in general to control the outcome of a single season of Super Rugby is negligable.

Great news. I think he got a bit stale in the last few years. Matt Caroll should do a good job on a temporary basis. Question is what do they do about this dropkick Robbie Deans? I do hope however it is an external appointment, and someone who will listen. Someone more importantly who will reform the system, and ensure that the last few years which have occurred a litany of administrative blunders are repaired. This requires an external and not internal appointment.

Let's hope it goes to all the guys who screwed up the Tahs - That will leave the best administrators and coaches in Qld with very well rested players.

This is the beginning of a new era. Change was needed and finally change is what we will get. It's just unfortunate the timing was a bit off for landing Gallop.

At the end of the day, the bloke is and has always been a banker. He will sit back and spin this and spin that until he disappears up his own arsehole.

His comments in the press conference today could not have been a clearer indication of how he has run the ARU during his tenure.

Top down focus, aggressive expansionism with absolutely no regard for the fact that the game has eroded considerably to the point where there needs to be a substantial rebuild from the ground up.

But its ok, the Lions are coming next year. That will fix everything.

Last time JON left as MD/CEO of the ARU, he was replaced by someone worse.

Let's hope it doesn't happen again.
