Such has been the metamorphosis in professional rugby that players now have in some cases become bigger than the game or their 'team'.
This is not the last instance we shall see of this. I am not saying Gits is a fault or behind the problems at the Force but there is a strong stench. Rumours of his wanting out have been around longer than the French offer. Players now are more concerned about their own personal benefits than the game as a whole, their club or team. Personally I would have far more respect for him if he honoured the contract in the face of personal financial losses. By wanting out he is is basically saying 'I only did it (go to the Force) for the money'. It's a shame because we were all led to believe he went to the Force as a challenge, to help a new franchise, to improve his play. It appears it is not so and he has or is showing he is just like many others, me first.
Until contracts are enforced for what they are and appropriate penalties imposed (loss of national selection for say 3 years or so) we will continue to have players or other 'entities' pushing their own causes and seeking dissolution of agreements previously made in all good faith.
Giteau signed a contract. Be a man an honour that contract. If Gits has nothing to do with the so called problems with Mitchell he should come out and say as much. Until he does so he is linked through suspicion. $10 million is a lot of money. Is it worth the loss of honour?
