Norths Uni had a hit out on Saturday against the Brumbies U20s

First time I'd ever seen a club team in the ACT so I didn't know what to expect.
They were better than I expected but the U20s were better in the set piece than I expected and matched the older bigger forwards which was where I expected them to struggle.
Short of a gallop would be my take on Norths-uni

Couple of fast wingers, a pretty handy fullback and at least 2 good halves one of whom (heard him called Seamus) is still at school and is pretty nippy around the base. The other startin half suffered a bit from a 7 man pack for 10 when the ref (who was otherwise pretty damned good) binned a prop for not rolling away: was not (to my eye) a repeated infringement so must have been for professional foul. Can only imagine u20s coach frustration that the ref would take such a technical approach in a trial between teams who are in completely different comps.
Very little dropped ball from u20s despite earlier rain, and a bit during the game.

lf backs will lead the Whites in the Kiama Sevens on Saturday. Mitch Douch, Josh White and Caleb Rech head the lineup with some young guns including Isaiah Latu, Jake Powley and Aiden Agnew adding the pace.
Rech returns to the club after following premiership winning coach Glen Christini to Tuggeranong and then Parramatta.
The team has been put through the moves with Fijian legend Noa Nadruku and Colts coach Dan Hawke.
While they have been preparing for the Sevens most of the squad face trials against Gungahlin on Friday evening at Campese. A colt’s game and a senior game will be played against one of the more fancied sides in 2017. The Eagles have been recruiting to bolster their already impressive side.
Queanbeyan has some hard heads ready for action including Ryan Jones, Tom G. Darmody, Billy Chalker, David Kerr and Jake Holland.
One to watch is Angus Leviere who has joined the club from Wagga Wagga. He plays fullback and can kick goals.
Unfortunately, on of the club’s best Carl Elliott was injured a training and may miss considerable time on the paddock this year. We wish him a speedy recovery.

The Canberra Vikings signed up Alex Horan last year for the NRC. Is he still around and affiliated with a club, or has he returned to brissy ?

Tuggers ay?... He may have actually got a spot at 10 this year with the news that Thompsons just got a bench spot with the Brumbs. With Rakic gone and Jackson-hope also with the brumbies, you would guess a re-shuffle of Robinson, Giltrap and Suavai among 12,13,15

I think Thompson will be back at Vikings eventually. It sounds like he's with the Brumbies to cover Jooste who was injured during pre-season and not quite back to 100%.

Yes that's correct, not sure why he hung them up but I believe he's going to assist 1st grade as a coach. I think in Rakic case it was hard for him to crack the NRC side as a regular fixture. From what I understand he does have aspirations for higher honors. He played for randwick on the weekend and was pretty solid.

If I had to pick today probably some combination of:

9. Henman/Bowden/Lonergan
10. Thompson
11. Knight
12. Robinson/Jackson-Hope
13. Suavai
14. Ravouvou/Robinson
15. Giltrap/Ravouvou

I think there's probably a couple of spots up for grabs, especially if thompson is required long-term and presumably Jackson-Hope will get a game or two with the top squad.

Agreed Macka...., the contentious spots remain 10 and 12 and dependent as you say on how often Thompson and JJH are away. Robinson has shown he can cover either position and Giltrap can cover 12 but how is the back-up depth?
