Owls looking to have a better season this year in colts! They won the Laffin Cup (a University competition) and looked much stronger than last year.

Vikings defeated a very depleted QBN in 1s, 2s and colts quite comfortably on the weekend. QBN will be much stronger in the season as they had a lot of players out.

Any other trial results thus far?

What of the rumoured new faces at Vikings? Besides Lealiifano, who was no doubt a welcome fill in...

From what I have seen and heard not many notable new faces. 4 or 5 colts from last season have been starting for 1sts in their trials. Isaac Thompson though is new at 10 and has ITM cup experience and played for Souths in Brisbane last year. An islander outside back also I think from Brisbane but as far as I'm aware thats all.

Any new faces around the other clubs?

Heard Qbn have had something like 30 odd injuries over the pre-season? - must explain the 3/4th grade "2nds" team they brought to Vikings Park and the 2nd gradeish looking 1st side....

If I were Vikings I would pull the money and tell the Gungahlin to pitch in

All ACT Clubs started at the same spot - and they have grown according to what has been put into them - why should people hate Vikings because they have money? Every club started in the same spot.

If it wasnt for Vikings Canberra Rugby would nowhere near be where it is today - they have put more into the game than anyother club in Canberra and have become one of the biggest/if not biggest club rugby team within Australia.

If the other clubs all want to put in the same amount of cash and backing as Vikings then of course play in ACT colours - if not then suck it up or simply dont put your hand up for selection.

Its sad to see people having a cry and not thinking of the bigger picture here - but its a simple issue to be solved - put in the cash and your good to go.

What a joke....

Vikings by 40 over Easts

I hear Easts have a lot of new players from NZ for firsts apparently. That could make things more interesting. They are putting a lot of effort into there colts this year, in hope of it all translating down the track into a good/competitive first grade side in the next few years.

Yea have not heard anything from Easts this year - Osbourne (might be incorrect spelling) did do alot last year in regards to building - 2012 must of been the worst year in their history nearly...

I hope they do well though....wonder what their 3rds/4th grade teams are looking like...

Which would be the best game to head out and watch this weekend? I'm in Canberra for work this weekend and would like to sneak out for a watch somewhere

Wests v Royals probably the pick of the fixtures. Though depending on where you're staying it might not be the most convenient location to get to (not that anything is particularly far away in Canberra if you're driving)

Interesting to see what wests have pulled out of the bag recruitment wise. Always play their cards close to their chest, but inevitably feature 2 or 3 new faces every year. Rumours aronud about a big ball carrying number 8, which would definitely be a good addition for them.

Royals generally not especially fit early in the season, might welcome the wet weather...

Gunners V Uni will be interesting - purely from a "what have uni done in the off-season" point of view...because last season was very poor for those guys.

Also Vikings V Easts - Vikings looking very strong as normal/Easts as people have said are putting good developments things in place....

All games are going to be played around the middle I think - the weather in Canberra is pretty terrible and doesnt look like getting much better tomorrow - good test for the forwards for set plays.
