Well the thing you need to remember is the players are out there playing when they evaluate their peers. Not sitting on their fat arse watching slowmo replays in HD.

Had he said it first it may have been both his best effort and his most original work. While your namesake will no doubt claim that he came up with the idea for Catch 22 Joseph Heller wrote those words.

I never said he invented it. Neither did he.

I just said he SAID it. :)

The Tribe has spoken.

I think the players got it right but were usurped by the ARU.
Don't know about the Sydney Uni bullshit

There is no doubt it should have been between Hopper and Slipper.

Izzy played with the Tahs and couldn't make it into their top 10, so what has changed. he didn't play THAT well in the majority of tests.
My theory as some others is that the award was given to Folau in an attempt to keep him in rugby.

Guess what fellas. Izzy is about Izzy and the almighty $$$$$. He made his bones in the NRL, Took a huge payday to go to AFL where he failed badly. He probably only came to rugby because his "stardom" was waning terribly in AFL, and we, the rugby mob were prepared to pat more $$$$ than the league boys.

He will fuck off to Europe after RWC. For what reason - there common thread $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

Don't get me wrong. I don't blame the bloke for getting as much as he can, because he has a brand (like SBW).

It just disappoints me that blokes like Hooper and Slipper, loyal exponents of the game miss out on an opportunity to get the brass ring because of a marketing ploy.

Anyway, congratulations to all the OTHER winners - am sure they actuallyDESERVED their awards.

PS: Chuck was at the back table.

Maybe a solution to this sort of manipulation is that votes are actually sealed and only opened on the night with Scrutineers present. Otherwise the farce resembles an election in the Republic of the Congo.

Rant over

I don't really have an issue with Folau getting it. I didn't expect it, but that's because in my experience players player awards tend to go to hard working forwards. that said Folau's stats are right up there and over the final 5 tests he scored lower then TK, Slipper and Hooper, so he racked up his points early on and he was spectacular on the last EOYT.

So you're worried that a player will go for a bigger monetary offer. you give him the players' player award in lieu of legal tender. Interesting theory.

Izzy has the ARU very concerned as he hasn't committed to post RWC. It concerns me as well, being a rugby supporter. The money on offer from france is greater than the ARU can afford.

The accolade of the John Eales Medal - may sway the bloke - but I would be surprised, given the history. This in no way is a criticism of Izzy. Just the same with Hooper , Slipper, Higgers and Simmons if they chase the $$$$$ and leave Australian rugby - as AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) and Horwill are and Genia probably. Just leaves a big hole in the bucket.

Suppose time will tell.

Good on Izzy

So is the conspiracy theory that the ARU convinced the players to vote for Izzy each game or that the ARU changed the votes the players made before the count?

Well done to Folau. Not my pick, and probably not a lot of others, but I guess the players value his contributions highly.

And well done to a few guys also on the list who have been huge for the Wallabies recently - Kuridrani and Slipper in particular, names were weren't expecting before the EOYT last year. And, Moore and Cooper scored very very well considering they have missed every Test this year (well, apart from 2 minutes for Moore) - I think they played in just 5 of 15 or so of tests counted, is that correct?

Being a dual something or other Award winner didn't stop Jarrod Hayne from chasing dreams.

Being John Eales Award Winner would just add some extras to the package that Japanese or French clubs would need to pay for Izzy's signature on a contract. Winning Nobodies Medal is going to make overseas offers more attractive and make staying in Camp Wallaby less financially attractive.

Is it really all about $$$ for Izzy? Church and family are apparently big motivators for him.

Gotta be the latter because the ARU were unable to convince the Players to vote for their Coach, or the ARU were unable to convince the Coach that the Players still wanted him on the Island.

And this is the problem with the ARU.

Since JON recruited Rogers, Dell, and Lor-tay, the blue print has been to hunt publicity instead of grow popularity.

I've worked it out. The player's handwriting was so bad that Foley was misread as Folau.

although Izzy has not been lighting the world on fire this season, I doubt the Tahs and the Wallabies would be as strong offensively and defensively. A lot of people seem to take for granted the crazy stuff he can do around the field.

Sorry Jeeper, I'm guilty!
And there was me thinking that's what he was paid the BIG DOLLARS for.
Silly me!

So the JEM votes should be normalised by salary? The final determinant is the number of votes you received divided by your salary?

Just because he's paid big bucks doesn't mean his contributions become any less impressive.
