He should be a 12 or a roving winger. That kid's an absolute freak - let him play wherever he wants.

At the moment he is a walk-in spot for wing. Mitchell has some work to do to become a contender again, when he regains his form its going to be a tough decision but at this point in time JOC (James O'Connor) is definitly a walk-in (especially with his recent wallaby performances - he has outplayed his opposite number every game, maybe with the expection of the ABs).

Yes he has enough pace - like mentioned above refer to him leaving Shane Williams in his dust, also refer to his try saving tackle verse Ireland where he came from the other side of the park to chase down the Irish winger.

With the modern roaming winger role, he is far from wasted on the wing. In fact combined with his JOCs selfishness (he constantely wants the ball in his hands) it suits his style perfectly. Where other wingers dont get involved enough, JOC (James O'Connor) will always be looking to get involved due to his selfish attitude.

Maybe one day we will see him at 12, but until then he's perfect on the wing. (However I do like the combo of a 10. Barnes 12. JOC (James O'Connor) for this RC)

I'd put him 10/15 with Beale. Those two can swap around during a game. Ioane/Mitchell on the wings with McCabe/Horne in the centres.

The question should be 'what is JOC (James O'Connor)'s best position?' not his best position "for the Wallabies". If you ask me what his best position is I would say 12, however his best position for the Wallabies is determined by who else you have in the team. If you've got Quade at 10 then having JOC (James O'Connor) at 12 would mean the 10-12 channel would be more of a risk for line breaks than if you had McCabe at 12 but if you had a strong defender like Barnes at 10 then having JOC (James O'Connor) at 12 would be a better option than having McCabe at 12, as long as we have enough cover on the wing.

I know that's a convoluted answer but it's a loaded poll, you are assuming the rest of the team is static.

I must've imagined those tries we scored against the Barbarians and Wales last year in December.

JOC (James O'Connor) at 10, McCabe at 12, Horne at 13.

What sort of masochist would choose to be a winger in that backline?

So I'm imagining those last passes Horne gave to Turner and Ioane last year? You know, there was the game where both Turner and Ioane scored 2 tries. What position where they again? Who was the 10 and 13? How did Turner score his try against Wales? Might want to look it up, it was a brilliant pass from JOC (James O'Connor).

I am sorry, I got confused with the sparkling passing game from McCabe and Horne in the Wales tests, or RWC last year. Or Horne for the Tahs this year.

I am waiting for you to remind me how Horne got the better of Conrad Smith a few years ago and therefore is better...

JOC (James O'Connor) needs to learn to underplay his hand like Cooper has started to. He has the skills to be a great 10 IMO but his best spot at the moment is wing with a roving commission.

I am of course looking forward to inevitable calls for players to be dropped when NZ and/or SA pump us. I don't think the Wallabies have done anything this season to worry NZ / SA. JOC (James O'Connor) could well be called upon to be the savior for Oz at 10. :D

You will be waiting a while.

However the current lineup isn't AB lite, in my opinion it is a counter intended to give us go forward, setting a platform for Ioane, JOC (James O'Connor), Beale et al, while not haemorrhaging tries. We don't have a Nonu, SBW or Smith, Freuan or Kahui. If the ABs were playing say Freuan at 13 instead of Smith I would be happier about seeing JOC (James O'Connor) in midfield to exploit it. But he isn't, and if anything Freuan would blow away JOC (James O'Connor) faster than Nonu can.
