Well said Tip - at this point personal reasons have been cited - and they are just that personal reasons which is none of anyone's business except his employer. The Reds have stated they have released him from his contract for personal reasons but have kept first dibs on him should he return. Would they have done that if they were totally pee'd off with JOC (James O'Connor)....don't think so.
Has he really done anything wrong since returning? Yeh he had a spat with Thompson - big deal - we don't know the details and that is not exactly worth getting on the JOC (James O'Connor) hate wagon.
I just don't get why people hold such grudges against players in union as you can have league players defecate in hotel lobbies yet no-one seems to even give a shit years later....but union player has few late night binges and he is the antichrist for next 10 years.

The entire starting point for all of this was a cheeky jab at worst which in no way justified the indignant rant Marto had on the radio. For fucks sake, you're 52 years old..

Well hang on - we had resources for the Beale/Patston thing and no-one ever really got to the bottom of that besides a bunch of name calling and rubbish speculation.
JOC (James O'Connor): is the story of young talent gone a little wonky. In a way I feel sorry that he's had smoke blown up his arse since he was a kid, because it tends to obscure the path to adulthood where he had to make difficult changes. See it in sport all the time, but the ones who actually make the right decisions don't tend make the news very often.
Marto was out of line. Best thing JOC (James O'Connor) could have done was ignore it, or at least simply call Marto directly and present his case. Writing about it on social media is just legitimising it, in a way. Then Marto could say what he wants on the radio, JOC (James O'Connor) would have a clear conscience.
But its now a little bullshit war that benefits no-one.

I disagree. I think his response is excellent.
It's definitely given him the moral high ground and made Marto's comments look incredibly poor, which they were.
JOC (James O'Connor) has written a thorough reply on a platform where he has a lot of reach (he has over 100k facebook followers).
Marto is walking a fine line trying to be a sports based shock jock on Triple M during the week and then a rugby commentator on the weekend working closely with the ARU and the Wallabies. I don't think he can reasonably behave like he did on radio and then turn up to his job with Foxtel with any shred of credibility.

Agree BH. Although I probably also agree with comments on the Podcast that it's likely the post was settled by his public relations team or someone similar. It's very well written and the impression I get from JOC (James O'Connor) makes me think that JOC (James O'Connor)'s first draft was probably heavily edited.

I'm sure he's had some assistance at least with the editing but it doesn't strike me as something written by a PR agency.
There are a few errors in it so it isn't entirely polished.
I definitely think it's a bit unfair to assume that these aren't his words at least to a large degree. O'Connor has never struck me as being unintelligent.

Bullshit, James O'Connor signed with Toulon when he couldn't get a Super Rugby side to pick up the phone. Then a miracle happened and he ended up at the Reds with a hope of making it to the RWC (with Toulon's blessing), tried to play on with an unstable knee, couldn't regain his form but he was not responsible for the Reds shambolic performances this year. Now he's fulfilling his original contractual obligation and May or May not be dealing with problems he doesn't feel equipped to handle here. I'd suggest the Reds knew the whole situation well in advance and thought "fuck it why not if he'll come for unders".
Marto has behaved like a royal dickhead but it's probably partly borne out of passion for the Reds and frustration at them copping another hit to their hopes of climbing off the bottom. The best thing he can do is shut up, let JOC (James O'Connor) head off and allow people to make up their own minds

Oh I'm not suggesting they aren't 'his words', but as a lawyer this is the type of thing you would say to your client "you write it at first instance and then I'll tidy it up". I'm simply saying that I suspect he's received some outside input in the finish product. nothing wrong with that.
