get's a little on the defensive side.

1328: Robert Rousset asks: G'day Jeremy, Why is it that a bunch of "no names" from Queensland can produce such fantastic rugby? Is it that the "REAL MADRID" of Australian rugby has too many "NAMES" and ego's to function properly as a team rather than a cattle parade of highly paid prima-donnas? You may think this a harsh assessment but I refer to Ewen McKenzie's comment regarding players "willing to be coached" and a number of Brumbies/Warratah's also gaining representative honours last season who thought that they were too important to take part in trial matches for Wallaby selection. As an ex-player you may see the dollars for the boys, as a fan who pays their wages I see pride and honour before money. It will take a long time for me to forgive the Ego's of last year. What are your thoughts? I might be a Perth boy but GO THE REDS, YOU LITTLE BEAUTIES!!!

JP says: I think you're entitled to your opinion, but I don't think people comment on what you do for a living. No employer would ever think they own an employee. Fans don't 'own' a team - they have passion which is great. But I think maybe you have a hidden agenda or something, and that's your opinion for sure. You're entitled to it. But I don't think there are egos around, especially down here in Canberra. I completley disagree - I think thats a very harsh comment. As for the Reds, they are playing well finally because they finally have a brilliant coach in Ewen. Lets not forget that QLD have an incredible pool of talent given the tough market they have up there and that's a credit to them.

I think Jeremy got a little upset that someone had an indirect shot at little mate Matt Giteau.

Here he goes again with his Gits glasses on.

1406: Trevor asks: What is happening with Berrick Barnes, do you think his move from QLD to NSW has hurt his Australian chances?

JP says: You'd be kicking yourself if you were Berrick, wouldn't you? The way the Reds are playing would be great for him. I think it has hurt his Wallaby chances as well because Quade and Giteau must be picked, so there's no room for him. However in saying that if the Tahs do make the finals its always good to have the last say before Wallaby seletion.

Why must Giteau be picked, Has he done anymore that Barnes this year?

Robert R. has a good point about the Brumbies. JP may have to cut the bias and face some difficult truths.

He does come across as a bit of a Twat. Not that I am fully understand the ownership model of Super 14 teams but I would have thought that Members and club members of grassroots clubs do own the teams? Someone may be able to explain this better.

JP offers nothing on the Rugby Club. Is incapable of avoiding references to the "Golden years" at the Brumbies and making jibes about the other teams. They already have Kearns for that uninformative parochialism. Marto puts some thought in to it, Kafer is not bad (RUPA hat aside). Paul should be ditched - he doesn't seem capable of any insightful analysis.

God he acts like a petulant ten year old. The producer must be cringing at some of his comments. What a twat. Zero value.

And he can't help with the snide comments either. Very rarely has anything positive to say about anything but the Brumbies.

Kafer looked like he wanted to tear his head off on Wednesday night. He is not funny and just plain ill mannered. If fox could recruit Ben Tune he would compliment that group better and offer more insight to the game and provide the team with a more diverse range of former players.

The Rugby Club is turning into The Footy Show. Paul offers the laugh factor, but the rugby analysis and debate is lacking a bit.

If Paul brings the laugh factor its the laugh at him, not with him factor.

They've all got 10 gallon RUPA hats. Kearns started RUPA with Demmo, Kafe and JP are (or have been) on the board.

Coincidence?

Yeah Paul adds nothing, we need more Kafer like analysis. Get Dwyer or Tirinui on etc (ie some decent analysts) and spread the coverage to do Euro rugby as well.

Look at last weeks games and highlight the problems of sides and how teams are breaking them down. Bring on experts to explain home say Baxter got snapped or how Matfield jumps to get in front in lineouts etc etc

Baxter snapped?? Never. His binding was just misunderstood. You could tell by the look on his face.

Never happen. Fox are essentially reporting on their own product. Euro rugby is on another channel so... Agree that some more in-depth stuff would be welcome, but you run the risk of paralysis by analysis and after all its just popular television. But having said that it shouldn't go down the Footy Show path either. (Not that I'm admitting to ever having watched it mind you - I'm only speaking from hearsay.) I think they, sort of, get the balance right, but it could do with a few tweaks. JP being one of them. The guy was outright fibbing when he said there were no egos in Canberra. Please direct the man to a mirror.

I hope Freier gets very involved in commentary and analysis once he retires.

Agreed. Which nicely segues into JP's crack at Freier last Wednesday: "Are you wearing your little brother's t-shirt?" Which while admittedly funny, is typical of JP's sarcastic style.

Yeah, he is thoughtful, likeable and engaging as a speaker. Basically the "Anti-JP". Would be very happy to see him develop this side post-playing.

Bugger you cyclo, I was going for having my name against 5 of the top 5. But yeah, he is a nice bloke. Ran into him in the carpark at the QVB a couple of years ago. He is deceptively large.

I see him occasionally at a cafe near my place - not tall but bloody solid. Friendly guy.
