Only a 1 point margin in the second half - 28 to 27.
Japan looked pretty good once they tired the Wallabies out. They won the last 15 minutes 14 to nil.
Wallabies attack is starting to look really good though. Should give Wales and Scotland a lot of trouble, and hopefully England too.

Well as a neutral? I think everyone would be fairly happy, the Wallabies scored a few points, japan didn't give up, and Japan scoring at end is such a good way for these tests to finish, the crowd tends to go away remembering the positives from end of the game. It pretty hard to judge how well anyone really was , as Japan were so completely beaten in the forwards in the first half, but noone looked bad which is also impotant.

It really just felt like we were playing without a 10. He can shovel a pass on and the pop to Speight was nice but as soon as he has to make a pass longer than two meters he struggles. Plenty of shonky passing from him today. He definitely has a place in the team, and should take spot kicks. He's not a 10 though.

Which of the national coaches is responsible for teaching a 23yo 22 times capped Wallaby inside back to pass from both sides? They are trying to develop his game despite that obvious flaw, why does anyone need to be 'blamed' for it?

I didn't see those and they certainly weren't from me! Regardless, he had a very good game and got himself involved, ran some nice lines, found a few holes, and others found them for him at times. Other times he just outmuscled them which was the point of my post. It wasn't only the opposite winger, he was actively seeking opportunities to run through them. It definitely wasn't solely a function of having someone other than Foley playing fly half though.

Oh please, players cop the wrath of fans more often then not when they get picked out of position, for a role they aren’t suited or are picked well before they are ready. Those players don’t deserve to be criticised for skill sets they lack in an unfamiliar position. That falls on the coach.

Hodge did well.
The structure of our game doesn't involve the 10 playing a quarterback role and controlling every play.
The forwards play off the 9 and Beale does a huge amount of the 'play making' when opportunities are there. It's certainly the role he is best suited at. He overplays his hand and tries too much when he has the ball on just about every phase. When there's actually an opportunity there he's probably the best player in the team at finding it and exploiting it.
Clearly the opposition wasn't great but it did show that the team didn't fall apart without Foley at 10 and the structures and shape remained similar to what they have been working on improving all year.

"Although there are a few questions about the makeup of the backline, there is a real possibility that they will run amok. Hodge is not inexperienced at 10, and his defense there will be better than Foley's. Beale will be the second play maker, and probably the primary playmaker on most set piece occasions. He just might set Kerevi alight in the 12 spot, and Kerevi has shown in the past he is capable of setting up his outside backs. The wingers and Kuridrani might have a field day if Kerevi can effectively run off Beale. And while there are questions about Kerevi's defense at 13, I think he goes ok at 12. I don't see the need for musical chairs or barn dance defensive patterns with this lineup."

Noticeable difference when Beale went off for the last 15 minutes.
I thought Beale was generally good and was probably our main play maker in most circumstances.
