Scrums were a bit loose, evenly loose though. Neither team put up a "big" scrum moment. Lineouts, apart from one shocking minger from A Hore, were uneventful, both Boric and Eaton won their ball, the former seemed to have a good tight game, the latter showed up in the loose a bit more.

I thought apart from the three blatant fuck ups Dickinson did alright. A dropped ball is not a mark. A forward pass is hard to see sometimes, but not from where he was or his Ass refs were, and an ignored knock-on is often a game changed. He also can't measure 10 metres.

But his calls were clear, understandable, and he gave a card after giving his final warning. 7/10, would have been 8/10 without the dropped mark.

Rocky has failed fitness test for the Horsies. Damn. Force could easily take this one.

Bartholumuez out for the Flacid. Sam Harris into fly-half. They're screwed.

First 40 minutes, and well Dickinson's performance was really fantastic. Didn't see the rest of the match, but it seems Dickinson's public downfall has helped him perform.

Dickinson had this to say during his post match conference.

"Overall they (the players) came to the party. There were timing issues for both of us. You'd always like a few less penalties, but that's just how it goes.

"I think guys got a bit lazy at times because they were a bit tired. First round in it was positive. Guys were looking to move away. When the penalties came the captains were actively telling them 'move guys get out of the way'.

"There fair bit of time and space and some good movement. Lots of running the ball back which was good to see - the big wingers running."

Well - first ever referee press conference seems to have gone well. Good comments from Dicko there.

Based on 1 game, maybe. But if you take out the usual "dross" factor of just about every Australian derby (when have we seen a really good game of rugby between 2 Aust Super teams?), it may not be so bad. Plus it was bloody hot and bloody humid, and that took a toll on the players.
I watched the 2 Kiwi games for the most part too, and had they been reffed just like Joubert reffed the Reds / Tahs, they would have been different affairs also. It was a free-for-all bunfight tonight.
Tahs pack will compete well, they won't score enough tries, but their defence is always strong and I don't expect that will change much. Reds will struggle without a decent scrum, but have some danger in the backs for anyone. Haven't watched the Ponies v Quokka-Tossers yet so cannot comment.

Yeah I think Cyclo is right to hedge his bets, although I will say the Reds will be killed next week by the Saders. Until about round 3 it's still open to interpretation as far as who has adapted to the ref's beteer, got the conditioning right etc...

... whether the refs go back into their shells
Nah, they will be loving all the media attention. Remember, all ref's have two dads and own a cat that they stroke while watching E! news.
