Given Pocock has proven himself as a man of integrity, maybe people should take him at his word.

The fact he took the time to even write the letter speaks volumes.

People will always interpret events though the mutual prisms of their sporting allegiances and default personal cynicism.

Great news for the Brumbies, but another sad day for Aus rugby. We need five teams of quality. We need five quality programs.

It really does depend on how you look at this. It certainly is bad for Australian rugby to have its weekest team lose an excellent young player like David Pocock, particulaly in ight of the state that the club seems to be in. It's at the point where you fear for the future of the frachise. But on the other hand, this really helps the Brumbies take a giant step toward being a team that consistently beats teams from the other conferences and challenges for a Super 15 title. The Australian Conference needs a couple of teams good and organized enough to do that. If the Brumbies can join the Reds as a team capable of doing that, that's quite positive.

The depth just isn't there and if the talent was evenly spread we would have 5 average teams. It may be bad for the Force and development in Perth but having 3 sides capable of pushing for the finals rather than 1 or 2 will be good for the game. The Saffers are in a similar place in there conference with 3 strong, 1 competitive and 1 rubbish team.

Tragic news for the sand gropers. Not sure where this franchise goes from here.
they need a CEO who has the balls and enough availiable funds to recruit the best availiable coach, or the best coach whose contract they can afford to buy out and offer big money and ownership of his team. The coach needs to be able to recruit whoever he wants, both in players and support staff to the team.
Personally I would try to get restrictions on foreign players lifted for a few years, and then recruit a French or English coach, and line up his best and most loyal players to come out with him.

There needs to be only one path for the team to follow and everybody needs to be going in exactly the right direction, hopefully the direction is the right one or it could be a disaster.

Dean Richards would have been a perfect candidate for that kind of overhaul if he hadn't signed with Newcastle. Don't like him as a person due to his attitude with the whole bloodgate thing. But as a coach and someone who can turn a club around I really admire him.

Colby should be looking to move on for more opportunities.
Pocock is an 80 minute forward, he wants to play for the full game and given that the Brumbies are undoubtably paying him very well he will be given that opportunity.
Playing behind Hooper, Colby was a great option for 20/15 minutes behind Pocock he may not even get on.
This is great for the Brumbies but the Force and Colby are the losers here.

Great post and very hard-to-argue-against logic IMO.

Don't know if it was good enough to read twice though ;)

Well - memories die hard here - Force screwed QLD for years and years so no sympathy from me - its up to them to create, get a coach and some players. Know its difficult when small numbers of juniors etc but maybe they shouldn't have put a team in Perth in the first place (sorry Force supporters). This makes it verydifficult for the Force to be competitive for many years.

Rugby is growing in WA and Victoria but the reality is that the Force and Rebels will continue to recruit from NSW and Queensland.

Rugby is a professional sport. The players in Brisbane club rugby are no more the domain of the Reds than they are of any other team including the Tahs. Vice versa also applies.

Braveheart81 - agree re professionism etc BUT I was pissed that so many left and decimated the State, for years. Understand that NSW and QLD tend to be the major producers of players and cannot hang on to all. Just hope for the game in OZ that Rebs and Force continue to grow the game and then be able to have a majority of quality, home grown players.

I would guess that it would take 20+ years before there is the prospect that the Force and Rebels could recruit most of their players locally.

I let this shit go a few years ago but I kind of giggle that it may be the Force's turn to install the "don't go Sharpie" hill.

In all seriousness I hope the Force get it together for the game of rugby and for their supporters. They are a loyal bunch and I can remember the horrible feeling watching the team I love being gutted and see no joy in their fans suffering that. I feel nothing but empathy for Force supporters. I hope Pocock leaving has the same effect to them as the Barnes defection had for us.

Well if we look at league, it's taken 15 years for the Storm to sign one Victorian. With both the Rebels and Force being able to lean on existing competitions, it should be shorter, but there's still the point of building the leagues up to an acceptable standard, and filtering a style of play down.

That said, I am surprised that the Force haven't been able to sign one yet. They're seemingly not close.

Last year was a good year for WA Schoolboys. We had a hooker in the Australian side and a prop, lock, flanker and scrum-half in the A's. Those guys will be future prospects.

Just a shame we had noone in either squad this year.

Are they all through the WA Academy(ies) though, or just like Lloyd for the Rebels?
