Oakhill ISA 2014 champs v Cranbrook CAS 2014 champs @ Cranbrook today 11am. Should be a good game

15mins footage of the Oakhill game at Cranbrook [incl. 12 tries]. To view at optimal screen size: click on the title at the top of the picture [i.e. larger than here on the forum, but smaller than 'full screen']. As the scoreline would suggest, Oakhill were solid in defence and their ball handling skills in open play were superb. The fifth and last tries were run in after stealing the attacking side's possession within the 22.

Pat's A's teams, 2nds and 1sts had respective trial matches against Trinity yesterday down at Summer Hill. I cannot give you scores for the younger ages however I know both 2nds and 1sts got up 34-7 and 37-12.

In the firsts, Nicholas Vatovec and AJ Rehab had impressive games busting the line and troubling the Trinitarian defence. Drew Denford and Tony Rumore impressed as well showing leadership in the pack, good to see them both cross over for a meat pie as well. Adam Douehi added the ketchup on top having a fairly good day with the boot.

From what I've been told they are playing Joeys at home next week, a good matchup prior to their ISA campaign commencing.

Any other trial matches this weekend or coming up?

The ISA Website has improved significantly from what it used to be like, but I still can't seem to see a draw for the rugby.

I can say that:
Nominations for ISA Rep teams 1st XV, 2nd XV and U16 are due by 29 April with trials being held on 6 May at St Pius fields at Oxford Falls.
Training for the ISA Representative Teams will be held at BMGS on 31 May, and at Oakhill College on 18 June (Opens) and Barker College on 19 June (U16).
Trials and fixtures against CHS, CCC & AICES will be held on 14 June at Rat Park, Pittwater. Detailed timings TBC.
NSW SRU Opens Trials will be held at Knox Grammar on 19 June with the U16 Trials and Championships at Knox on 20-21 June.

also
ISA Winter round 1 starts on 2 May.

ISA Div 1 includes the usual suspects: The Bye, Kinross Wolaroi, Oakhill, St Augustines, St Gregorys, St Patricks, St Pius X, and St Stanislaus

ISA Div 2 is the usual suspects: Redlands, Chevalier, All Saints, Central Coast Grammar, Redfield and St Andrews

ISA Div 3 Schools will play with ISA Div 1 3rd XV in a combined competition, including: The Bye, BMGS, Oakhill, Oxley, St Augustines, St Patricks, St Stanislaus, and The Scots School, and in 16C (BMGS, Oakhill, St Pius X, St Stanislaus and The Scots School), 15C (St Augustines, Oakhill, St Patricks, St Stanislaus, Oxley, Kinross Wolaroi, and BMGS), 14C (Oxley, St Augustines, Oakhill, St Patricks, St Stanislaus, The Scots School, St Pius X, and BMGS) and 13C (Oxley, St Augustines, Oakhill, St Patricks, St Stanislaus, The Scots School, St Pius X, and BMGS) competitions.

and
There are 10 ISA Winter Rounds (Round 1 on May 2 weekly to Round 6 on June 13 then a gap to Round 7 on July 18 to Round 10 on August 8) with Semi Finals (August 15) and Finals (August 22).
This suggests ISA Div 2 will do a home and away series starting this weekend coming, with SF and Finals, with ISA Div 1 doing 7 rounds only with no finals, and ISA Div 1 probably starting on May 16.

"Oakhill have a Waratah Shield game on Tuesday at 1pm against a school from Canberra"

do you have any other info on the shield?

The Waratah Shield competition seems to get more and more secretive as time goes on.

With AAGPS and CAS full and barely holding rugby participation numbers, the only areas for real % growth in the grass roots school system in NSW is through investment and encouragement in the AICES, CCC, CHS and ISA. The Waratah Shield and Trophy cover those associations and should receive more publicity if NSW RU, ARU and NSW SRU were serious about expanding the game and increasing participation numbers.

How about running a Waratah Rugby 7s Series, along the lines of the IRB 7's to attract the smaller schools. 4 pools of 4 teams, allocate series points like the IRB World Rugby 7's series does to determine the overall winner. Do something. Try something.

Rugby 7's has the ability to deliver some very positive outcomes for Australian rugby at all levels of the game. Senior/ Elite level sponsorship, grass roots participation and introduction to the game.. they just need to egt it right and push hard.. totally agree with your comments HJ..

That's a great idea, but who should do it?
Volunteers?

The Waratahs pay NSW RU an annual fee of about $1m for the "lease" of the NSW RU Super Rugby licence.

How about the Tahs holding back $50k of that and redirect that to a mob like Ready Rugby or some other similar group to run the series.

In my experience, if some one else does the administration and organisation, School Heads of Sport are quite keen to participate in sporting events.

It is a little sad that the Waratah Shield has become the ISA Knockout Competition.

This weekend, I am aware of the following trial games:
Stannies & Kinross vs Riverview in Bathurst this weekend. Always a tough gig for the city boys especially when the weather is a little unpleasant which it is expected to be.

Shore vs Augies. Reports of a fair swag of regular Augies lads unavailable due to SG Ball commitments.

Pats vs Joeys.

Oakhill vs Newington.

Based on what is posted on the Augies, Stannies, Kinross, St Pats & Oakhill web sites, the draw for ISA Div 1 in 2015 will be:

pius 1's vs joey's 4's
22-17 to pius
great game by fraser toohey, standout in the pius line up
joeys pack lead by the number 20 starting at 8.

result could've gone a different way if there was more experience on the touchline, however, great showing by the joey's boys with a strong year 11 influence
