Reading all the threads coming through, hopefully our school st, gregs can stay clean, watching kinross against gregs on saturday there was a lot of swearing going on in a team huddle with the kinroos coach in the middle of it.this was 16A's and were getting beaten.not a good image to see their coach allowing the swearing

Simple protocols will manage this
  • have the huddle far enough away from sensitive ears so they don't get burnt.
  • after the coach has had his polite rev up hand it over to the team leaders and walk away so the coach is not implicated in anything that may not be condoned by concerned parents.
  • monitor closely enough to ensure nothing unacceptable (various forms of vilification) is used as part of this rev up, without interrupting the creative flow
this is a 16 year old blokes' secrete men's business, highly likely it will shock their mothers that they are no longer as pure as they were in the cradle. The white linen is now a little stained, They are about their job and focussed, some verbal chest beating will happen. This is and should be tribal and raw.

I would encourage intelligent use of language and remind anyone using very old English words to know the time and place. Advice like don't use large drafts of the half time rev up in after match functions over the tea and scones should be sufficient advice for any of those elected as intelligent leaders within the group.

So essentially the oakhill vs pats this weekend is the ISA grand final.

St Pats will be chuffed to be featured in such lofty circles. Whilst the ISA premiership is out of their grasp, a victory would give them bragging rights of putting Oakhill back to second place (possibly); "Premier killers 2014", the T-shirts will read. Order early, these will go fast.

The good thing for Pats is that they can play better than they did against Auggies. They don't need any more mongrel or "never say die". They have that in boatloads. What they can do is is retain possession. It was evident in last weeks game; if you give enough ball to Auggies, they will score. It will be the same against Oakhill, they have try-scorers right through the team.

On at least 5 occasions, last week, Pats handed the ball to Auggies. Two failed box kicks, penalties not finding touch, general kicks gone wrong, walking into touch with the ball. Four tries to one was the final result; but Auggies had the ball for 75% of the game. Oakhill will score more if given the same handouts.

It's a long time until next season; that's a long time to dwell on the bad choice or the brain explosion. Like I said last week, this game will be won by the smart choices of key play-makers and the conscious execution of the team plan.

Looking forward to a great game oakhilldad. See you on the sideline.

Oakhill 44 - St Pats 24

Closer game than the score reflected, points difference mainly due to Harrison Goddard's kicking (7/9). Holes in the Oaks defence meant that Pat's were always dangerous when they were on the run but the Oak's attack was too strong in the end. Great game.

A truely great game of rugby today at Damien Oval. Oakhill stood their ground the whole game and deserve the ISA premiership. Pats should fair extremely well in the coming 2 years after the 16a's are undefeated ISA champions and several played in the 1st XV and looked like they belonged there
from the start of the season. Well done to Oakhill.

Yes - with 16A Pats Undefeated premiers (close game today ... great game against Oakhill), 16B Pats runners up (first lost today to a dominant Oakhill outfit ... congrats to Oakhill 16B premiers) and boys backing up from Opens this year, Pats should have depth in the Opens in 2015.

71-7 I think augustines is not blessed with a goal kicker, 13 tries three conversions I think

Definitely not 8 conversions

Position ....Points .....points dif. BP included
1 OAK .......28^ ........+144 ........4
2 Augies ...26 ..........+208......... 6
3 Pats ......16 ...........+76 ..........4

Congratulations Oak Hill
It seems the season was wrapped for Oaks in the second round win at the stockade but they could not unpack the prize until this week

As predicted St Augustines struggled with the away games against OAKs Pats and Stannies. It seems their points difference has been achieved without a consistent goal kicker (i am not sure they achieved more than 40% conversion rate and kicked no more than four penalties in the season)

And so ends another season.

A great game at OakHill to finish the ISA opens Div 1 comp.

From the outset, it was looking like a high scoring game. The problem for Pats was that the high scoring was being done by OakHill. Pats were shell-shocked as OakHill rampaged to a 20 point lead, towards the end of the first half. Pats supporters were looking to the exits, a chance to get out of the car-park before the rush.

Pats held on bravely. Their discipline under-fire has been exceptional this season. Their first try to a charge-down, appeared to be an anomaly as the OakHill backs ran riot. Not only did OakHill create the extra man with crisp passing, they also backed up exquisitely. Pats cover defence was one-dimensional, and invariably, the inside ball would find a quick man and it was try time. Pats defence was present and effective, but they just couldn't match the speed and efficiency that OakHill generated out wide. Even the normally tight forward defence was busted open with a great individual try to Oaks #7.

But Pats just wouldn't die. While OakHill provided the glamour rugby, Pats produced the ugliest tries of the season. The Pats wombat squad burrowed across the line to salvage a reasonable score at oranges. I think it might have been 26-15(not sure). Pats kicker was not as sharp as last week, whilst OakHills conversions were close to 100%. Pats supporters decided to stick it out - this was a score that could be built on.

Pats scored first after half-time and we had a game. For the first time in the match, OakHill brows were beginning to furrow. Oaks coach was screaming down the walkie-talkie, and for a moment, Oaks looked dishevelled and angry behind the posts.

This glimmer of hope lasted for about a quarter of the match. OakHill still looked dominant with the ball, but Pats wouldn't lie down. Oaks scored again to put the gap out to more than 7. Pats stayed with the task and worked tirelessly through the second half, to try to rescue the game. In the end, it was OakHill's quality running rugby that ran in more tries to close out the game. Not sure of the try count - don't know if 44-24-was the correct score.

OakHill gave Pats a master class in precision, creative rugby. They played too wide for Pats concentrated defence line. And they were too quick for Pats cover defence. Pats created their opportunities by solid forward play and a number of individual line-breaks or attacking kicks. On the whole, Pats tended to run sideways, looking for opportunities against an OakHill defence that remained reasonably straight.

Full credit to the Pats team; they took it right to Oaks, for the whole game; with a couple of key playmakers out, before the game, the team put on a stirling performance.

But the trophy, deservedly, goes to OakHill. Undefeated premiers of the ISA for 2014. Congratulations.

ISA Div 2.

Chev are ahead and undefeated IIRC. Semi finals this weekend. I think it will be Chev vs All Saints (1vs 4), and Redfield vs St Andrews 2 vs 3).

The most likely final will be Chevalier vs Redfield with Chevalier taking the chocolates.

The ISA rugby season is now over but credit where credit's due, apparently the St Augs 14As have had an undefeated season of 605 for and 0 against (including trial games v Riverview and Waverly).
That's an impressive GD.

Let's hope 'most' of them stick with union, with that sort of ability.

Shane do you know how the very good Pius 14a team went this year after winning all their games last year
