ISA Rugby 2013

Everybody - there are three big days of NSW Opens trials involving CHS, ISA, GPS, CAS and other school associations, coming up.

Every year we have posts in the CHS, ISA etc etc threads on the trials whereas the posts really relate to the NSW Schools thread.

So, when the trial dates arrive, write about the game in the NSW Schools thread, not in this one.

Sure, it is fair enough to write about who should have been in an ISA team and who shouldn't have been, in this thread, but, in the main, comments on the trial matches themselves and who should make the NSW team, or shouldn't, belong in the NSW thread.

Sometimes there are comments on a ISA v CHS game, for example, in three different threads: ISA, CHS and NSW Schools.

Let's use the NSW Schools thread only please.

Both teams have ISA opens players playing on Sunday. This avoided the backing up the day after a match.
All other grades and ages are playing t Rat Park Saturday including the 16s who will also be playing Sunday

and you have missed a day in your life if you think today is still Wednesday

Was actually 70-0, not to much to say about a result like that, all auggies boys played well, all taking good form into trials this weekend

The scrum was dominated quite a few times,and lost their first feed, which is unusual with such a scoreline.

Versatile back Joe Crawford (Stannies) has been called up for ISA selection. Unable to confirm starting position for Crawford and unsure on who has pulled out.

You would imagine that Crawford would go onto the bench and the bench player would be promoted into the II's, and if it was a I's player who pulled out, then the current II's player would be promoted to the I's.

That is the theory anyway. Reality may be somewhat different.

didn't know that. Last year Stannies, Oakhill and Pats each beat Augustines 14As by 50 or more. Interesting.

Never good to hear about ambulances to rugby matches. Big turnaround from 2012 for Augustines, well done to them. Understand that Augustines also won 13As and 14As - not sure of scores, but I believe both were close.

Well, its a little unrealistic to have nothing to say about a result like that - particularly against an Oakhill Team that was supposed to be pretty good... Obviously St. Augustines played well, but what about the other side of the coin - any Oakhill old boys on here? were there injuries? absentees? something to explain such a blow-out scoreline?

These things can happen in Schoolboy Rugby, but normally 34 - 45 points.. 70 points actually takes a fair bit of effort.

Hopeless coaching, a non-existent rugby programme and ad hoc approach could have something to do with it. Oakhill have loads of talent that’s just going to waste.

What are the results from the weekend?

St Gregory's 38 defeated St Pius 21
Pius played gutsy rugby in the 1st half and trailed 12 -0 at the break.
St Greg's backline moved up a gear after the break, and despite running into a stiff breeze in the second half, they quickly blew the Pius team off the field.

Leading 38 - 0 midway thru the second half, wholesale changes were made to the Greg's team (running on 6-7 reserves). Greg's then lost a player #17 to the sin-bin for continuous ruck and maul infractions. Then a red card to the second rower saw Greg's play the last 10 minutes with 13 players.
Pius scored 3 tries in the last 20 minutes.
So really the 38 - 21 score line flatters St Pius. Who knows what the score could have been if the Greg's #9, 10, 11, and 12 were allowed to continue showcasing their enormous skills.
It really was jaw dropping to see the Greg's backline "do their stuff".
The St Greg's forwards just have to win a fair percentage of good clean ball and they will win most all their matches.

The problem will be when they play better disciplined and physical teams that restrict the quantity and quality of ball coming to the backs.
That said, the St Greg's 1st XV were impressive.
