a real (and rare) growth story about schools rugby. Have a mate who went there in the 90s. They had a first xv and no other open teams. Now they rival some GPS schools as to the amount of rugby teams they have. (25 plus). A real rugby school these days. So good to see.
I hope they are able to maintain the legacy he has built and left for the College. I wish them all the best

I think having the national Fiji hooker is much more of a better fit then having that derek Osborn. Decent list otherwise

Lots of players you have missed but i feel more like the following. The guns from the U15s may trial but its a big jump from U16s to 1st XV as so many have tried but failed. It will be great to see and i hope as many trial as possible.

1. Alec Buchert (2nd XV)
2. Luke Muriti (1st XV)
3. Julian Carruthers (1st XV)

Great list, I believe 13 out of 15 players returning from the starting 1st XV in 2023 (including the entire backline) will make them an extremely strong team in 2024.

No idea really, I'm not too familiar with the current year 11 boys, but Flynn wont be 15, don't think he has even played there but I'm sure he'll get some game at 9 nest year. Pretty sure you'll see the likes of Hasani Bloomfield, Sam Polly, Max Giollo, Josh Wakefield make their First XV debut at some stage next year. Max did pay a few First XV games this year.

Kudos to Dural rugby club as well. Developed these kids exceptionally pre high school. Great to see these fantastic teams come through, will strength the program for a decade.
hope they hold onto them
I think you may be mistaken about who developed these kids. You may find the Oakhill boys selected for the u15 Waratahs are mostly Two Blues boys, with the exception of Cyrus who I believe has been at Dural the last 2 seasons.

I reckon your prediction for the Oakhill 2024 team will be way off …... But interestingly I just heard via the grapevine one of their front rowers will be going to King's. I guess it is 'poaching season' now as bursars from GPS and CAS schools start offering scholarships. I have mates who coach rugby at Oakhill & Auggies - this time of the year is horrible for them as they start to make plans for the next season and at the same time having to spend time discussing with parents the pros & cons of accepting scholarships. Needless to say this has been going on for years and I am sure you guys out there with affiliation to other ISA schools have your own war stories. I get it if you offer scholarships to families from the outback or families without financial means to send their son to a rugby playing school. But to offer scholarships to a middle class family and the new school is no less than 15km away from the old school ? I guess it is cheaper for the poaching schools if they don't have to offer scholarships that include the cost of boarding. What about pathways to rep teams ? ISA students are already well represented in all the state and even Australian teams. Ohhh wait a second ... the Advanced English and Maths programs in GPS and CAS schools must be a hell lot better than what ISA schools can offer !!! :)
Maybe I am old fashioned and naive enough to believe it is the responsibility of the school to coach all kids playing rugby from year 7 onwards hoping to make a decent 1st XV in years to come rather than just send scouts out looking for players.

There have been some bedtime whispers regarding the 2024 Blood and Mustard Oakhill 1st XV Squadron.
I am the speculative rugby scouter for Oakhill and would like to show my prediction of their pre-seasonal team.

1- Thomas James Williams (Former Kong Cup Championship Favourite)
2- Luke Miriti ( 1st XV)
3- Daniel Cavallo ( 15A's)
4- Thomas Allogia ( 1st XV)
5- Anthony Habkouk (14B's)
6- Charbel Kazzi ( Show Team Captain)
7- Ryan Scott (1st XV)
8- Jaxon Frazzer (Sunday League Merchant)
9 - Zock Kavilaproof-read (Library captain)
10 - Zachary Kavilagumtree ( Off spin - Bowler)
11- Jack Taylor-Hannify ( 1st XV)

Let us see if my predictions are accurate...

Thought I'd give a little early preseason prediction heading into the 2024 season before logging off for Christmas. Keen to see how right this will be and is based across all AAGPS, CAS, and ISA respective competitions

My top 10 1st XV's heading into next season:
1. Scots - Abundance of star players in years 11 and 12 next year
2. Joeys - Extremely strong and I believe undefeated year 11 cohort next year? The year 12 also has some strong players.
3. Knox - Will top CAS and has a good group of returning players next year.
4. Shore - Large part of their 2023 squad is returning and has shown glimpses of the standard they can play too, look no further than their Riverview game this year.
5. Auggies - Great 9 and 10 punch combination returning, has the potential to knock off teams above them as well.
6. Waverley - Some stars returning in Poitaha and Aboud, will lose a large part of their backline and forward pack but will nevertheless be contending Knox keenly.
7. Riverview - The likes of Grover and Hartman will certainly assist this team in the coming year, forwards need cohesion for momentum for them to create any damage.
8. Barker - The lads in red will be disappointed with their season last year finishing 4th, will need to step it up and take on Knox and Waverley from the get-go to have a shot at the premiership
9. Oakhill - A good amount of year 12's returning, maybe the additions of their strong 15s group will provide some punch and allow them to knock off some heavyweights in the trials before having a shot at ISA.
10. Newington - They just seem to not get it right every year, they need to review their preseason and training and make changes, if so, they maybe could creep up as far as the top 5 provided the right coaching, they have the talent.

Most others in similar positions keep playing school Rugby (JS didnt) but I wonder what impact it may have on any rep teams. I think he will be left out of anything beyond ISA sides.

I don't agree with it as Rugby should keep ties with everyone. I know if it was me and I was not picked higher and I deserved it because of a choice like this I'd brush the sport forever.

Yeah I understand both sides of the argument and don't know where I sit with it. If he's not going to be permitted to progress through the pathway then I probably argue that he's made his choice as to which path he wants to take and should be at peace with it. There's a fullback/10 who doesn't get to be developed if he takes a spot knowing full well that he isn't going to play on.

I dunno - it's a hard question. Just want him in Black and Gold come Term 2 next year :)
