Not much to report from Breen Oval today, Grammar had a red hot go but simply lacked the quality players to do any significant damage. St Pats were steady for there first hit out. Usual early season issues with new combinations and general rustiness were prominent. Score 36-12.

Not surprised that Barker won but am very surprised by the scoreline. Anyone have any word on how this game played out?

Great to have this ISA discussion up and going. I can't agree with Wood Rat more in that all of schoolboys rugby needs to be celebrated.

Perhaps as an ISA Div2 parent I am a little biased but I believe that the future of rugby might just lie in the less glamorous divisions of schoolboy rugby and the smaller schools. Why? Because to field some of their teams these schools have to bring new players into the game. What rugby can't afford is to have these schools "give up" on the sport.

Anyway, after way to much rain it was wonderful to finally find myself on the sidelines of an actual match. The U14, U15 and 1st XV trial matches between SACS and Sydney Boys High on Saturday were great to watch. Highly competitive, close matches and, despite some early season rust, the standard of play was relatively high.

Just wondering who is in charge of rugby at SACS this year? Heard Gary Munday did not return to the school in 2017. Is there a MIC Rugby?

Yes, unfortunately Gary Munday is no longer at SACS. The SACS Rugby program (and school Rugby culture) was much improved during Gary's tenure. The school is still working on a replacement and I understand there may be an announcement soon.

Start of Term 2 is awfully late to be getting a new Rugby MIC in!

I don't know about everyone else, but with the numerous rain cancellations and then the school holiday Rugby doldrums it seems like there's been barely any junior Rugby to-date this year. With three Rugby commitments for my son over the next three days it feels like Christmas Eve!

Scots Bathurst, 16 team (there is only 1) also beat a Newington. Team (not sure which one)

But it was posted somewhere in this place that New won everything on the road trip, so they lost at least 2 games to Scots

Great specialist coaching day yesterday @ SACS with help from David Knox, Pat Phibbs and others. The word is that Sam Palmer from Northern Suburbs Rugby will be joining SACS next week as the school's Sports and Athlete Development Manager (Gary Munday's previous role which is sports-wide, not just Rugby). A new role specifically in relation to Rugby is understood to be in the wings. The recruitment for this has happened and presumably it'll be announced this week.

Saw the first half of the Pats v Knox trial. Pats were playing good running and inventive rugby and went into the sheds ahead. Knox played as an opens squad and were clearly missing some of their better players. Like most years, Pats will have some talent but depth is the major issue and explains why they are towards the bottom of the comp.

What trials are being played this weekend? I know Pats are playing local rivals Trinity in what is always a very interesting and hard fought game. Is is the Gregs/Pius playoff?
