And that should be all the more reason for the ARU to help out the Brumbies if needed...
The ARU should help the Brumbies out. I never said otherwise. They have a very important place in Australian Rugby as do the other four franchises. This sponsorship thing isn't good but the vibe in Brumbyland seems to be that things are on the up.

I'm confused. Queensland have a total of 4 super titles. The Brumbies have 2 but somehow the Brumbies are the most successful Australian franchise ever. Do some of our titles some how not count?
While we're at it. 7 years since you won a title and 7 years since you made the finals at all. Obviously not long enough out of the winners circle yet.

Since the competition started in 1996 the Reds have 1 title...

But let's not start this debate again?

As others have said the ARU have set the precedent with the bailouts of the NSWRU and QRU. However those two RUs represent the majority of the Australian RU. 2nd Point is that the ARU is no longer flush with funds as it was when it bailed out the NSWRU and to a much lesser extent the QRU. Any close inspection of the business case for bailing out the Brumbies would struggle IMO simply because the possibility of breaking even on the input is slim given the small population and supporter base.

The solution in my view is the other precedent that has been set in Oz Rugby, and the Brumbies need to seek the leave of the ARU to take an equity partner.

Well, that's fine for them but the ARU and Sanzar don't recognize the Super 8 or 10 as being an extension of the current competition.

So no one is claiming you guys didn't pick up wins there, but doesn't count toward the current competition which was formed in 1996.

If Super 12 don't count your argument is well and truly buried.

You might want to edit your post old mate.

I dont understand why Super 10 doesn't count. What makes it any less credible than super 12, 14 or 15.

I hope the ponies don't go under, hopefully they can find a sponsor and the union can turn things around in the next few years.

It seems to be because Brumbies fan want to claim to be the most successful franchise ever.

I'm happy to leave the 'we're better than you because..' BS in the past. You can't compare Super 8 to Super 10 to Super 12 etc as they were in different eras.

Time to move on...

Back to the topic at hand, the ARU have set a precedent in assisting teams financially and should therefore follow history. I don't want to see any Aussie team struggle (no matter who it is) as it will only make the National team poorer for it.

The logical extension of the Brumbies' argument that "old tournaments don't count" would be to bunch Super 14 in with "old tournaments"... ergo Reds have 1 title, no-one else has any!
But no need to thrash that dead donkey again. And I'm a Tahs fan so it really comes down to how long you've held the Templeton Cup over a rolling 6 year period.

ARU bailout comes with strings attached - the province gives up control of their finances to the ARU... something you'd be pretty keen to keep as a last resort.

BJ, what's the go with the property deal going through? If it's guaranteed future income the Brumbies could always borrow to pay the bills until payday.
