Pretty happy with that for the first test of the season.

Was very happy with the props - Bower was excellent and Ofa put that excellent shot on in defence (that the commentators credited Cane with).

Samisoni has been outplaying Codie for at least a year now - he needs a crack at starting.

Whitelock is seemingly ageless - depend on the how the series is going I would like to see Vaai get given a game and Whitelock a rest at some stage.

Yep pleasing for both the debutants - Leicester brings some size and workrate out wide which is really nice - he isn't the quickest but he had a number of good involvements and was very accurate. Pleased to see a ball running loosie come off the bench so good to see PGS get stuck in - looks like he could suit the bench role. Dalton also class off of the bench.

Aaron Smith was excellent (how good was it to see him have a run) - Beauden's punting is always a bit off but nothing too crazy.

Really impressed by the midfield - Tupaea and Rieko combined excellently in both attack and defence. The passes they combined with to put Leicester in space for Jordie's try was brilliant and Rieko's 2 try saving tackles were good stuff.

Yes Scott Barrett put in a good shift - went about his work - it will be interesting what they do next test at 6.

I would actually like to see Jordan replace Reece as I like the balance Leicester brings to the back 3 with his size and power.

A lot of available players to come back but i'd like to see the same 9-10-12-13 start again for some consistently/combinations.

The Irish showed enough in the first 20 to think they can still cause some trouble on this tour - particularly if they get some conditions that favour them.

Looking at how the other games/teams went yesterday/today the ABs can be pretty chuffed with that as a first up effort.

That should be the last time Ennor wears black. He isn't up to it.

Have to disagree. Reece is just too busy to be denied.

Big Les still turns around like the QEII and hasnt yet been run through the gauntlet of having to field a million bombs in the rain at test level. Even Jonah rogered that part up.

my team for T2

1 G Bower. do it again then
2 Samisoni. undeniable now
3 Ofa. he woke up. go again big lad.
4 B Retallick
5 S Whitelock. one of these two to drop out, Vaai in. I want to see the kid in a goalline stand using his face for brakes before I'm sold on him.
6 Scrote Barrett. sure, keep him in, he deserves it.
7 Cane/Papalii. half each but we're just delaying the inevitable here.
8 Ardie. Still not sold though sorry. Ire got their roll on and advanced towards the AB goalline with relative ease. Was just individual ingoal heroics from Rieko etc that repelled them. Just get a proper 8 in there ffs. His name is Hoskins Sotutu
9 Sexpest
10 Beaudy
11 Les goes again knowing he'll have to have a blinder with Will Jordan ready to resume his 10-year tenureship in the back 3
12 Tupeaua
13 Rieko
14 Reece
15 Jordie. backs stay the same. get those combos instinctive and put 60 on Captain Darling Sexton's gloating whingers.

It was high risk though in the current climate. Could have easily gone wrong.
Yep I agree it reasonably high risk, but bugger me he charged in made shoulder on shoulder contact, and personally I would of been disappointed if stood there and didn't try to make it hard for Irish to clear ball. I hear people say, but they already had ball, that's the point, you don't get passive because other team has ball, you try to blow tham back and make it messy.
Maybe I see the game as still a contest at every point, but it's what it is thank christ for that, we not playing league or anything where you give up on winning the ball. I know it was Scott Barrett, but there would be no counter rucking etc ever happening if we just stand there.

Yes very happy with the intent - just the execution needs work.

@Dismal Pillock favourite the Paper Tiger has joined the squad
Cometh the hour, cometh the man. Maybe this time he won't walk around like a big fat lightweight. Just seems so ponderous, such terrible rugby instincts, like he barely knows where he should be going.

Hopefully he looks in the mirror and realises he is an ENORMOUS MUNTER and just starts murdering people.

Also got our trophy back after it was misplaced back in 2017.

Stu Barnes has some thoughts wrt Sam Cane:

Anonymous Hurld journo has some thoughts wrt Stu Barnes:

"Barnes, whose playing career peaked when he captained a midweek Lions team that were beaten 29-17 by Hawke's Bay in 1993, said Cane had missed a tackle on midfielder Garry Ringrose that put Ireland in a scoring position."

I think they call that passive aggressive in certain circles...

If ever you want a glowing reference for Cane, having Stu Barnes rubbish you is the best. I only disappointed he hasn't written an article of why the ABs will get done in next 2 tests etc, which he normally does before they then have big wins!:D
Dalton Papalii 6, Ardie Savea 7, Hoskins Sotutu 8
It's really got me beat Bullrush, most people are saying Ardie was MOTM or very close to it (as usual) then some want to move him from position where he did it from?

Yeah….that’s a fair point.

I think he is a 7 and even at 8, plays more like a 7 but is forced to 8 because Cane is captain. I'd like to see him with at his best position (IMHO) and see someone who is an 8, play at 8.

Yep, I know where you coming from, just I always think the ABs have over years changed how positions were played etc. We used to have a No8 like Mexted who played a lot like a loose lock, then went to one like Buck, no good at lineouts and so was rubbished fror awhile, then went to Zinzan Brooke style all new styles of No8 , it's how NZ has stayed near top of pile for so long, doing things a bit different.

I heard people asking what coaches were doing letting a pretty good No8 play on the wing when Jonal came along too, and moved a 7 to the wing. Hell Kenny Stewart etc in 70s was really the early part of having specialised 7s rather than left and right flankers.

Hard to argue with the results and as long as the ABs keep winning, Fossie shuts up all of us critics LOL
