My first though when I looked at the picture... Yes, it's pretty lame.

But then my second thought was that there might be something more behind this. Maybe this was drawn some cool, cherished, rugby supporter!!! Someone with no artistic ability, but with Rugby obsessions and maybe even Rugby connections. Someone who didn't care what the picture looked like, just cared that Rugby players loved Rugby players and will accept anything and anyone, no matter their talent on, or off the rugby field.

And, I became quite excited as to what they might be announcing in two weeks!!!

Until...

I clicked through the facebook link. It goes to the 'Qantas (wallabies)' facebook page!!! ie. In two weeks, some journo who's probably never seen a game of rugby in his (or her) life is going to be promoting something.

But anyway Qantas, keep up the good work. And make sure the promotional announcement in two weeks is just as quality.

OI its a limited edition castrol suit......that shit will be a collectors item, hurry and buy tickets so you don't miss out!

Will they have stupid coloured wigs like at the origin next? Whats wrong with buying a wallabies jersey, you know like a normal supporter? Give a voucher that gets you a half priced jersey or something, not a gay yellow pair of coveralls

I really don't understand the hate over this.
The Wallabies/sponsors are trying to generate some support for the team. They aren't forcing everyone to wear one. Just those who want to join others to have a good time.

Agree totally, there going to effort and promoting the game, how it's considered a bad thing I don't know.

Also, the suits have been done before by Bundaberg a few times (at least in Sydney) difference here is there doing extra advertising for the games, that's a good thing, more credit to them for putting in the effort

I can safely say this has nothing to do with the REAL ''Golden Suits'' ;) www.wallabiesgold.com

We have a little more class than dressing up in a V8 super car pit-stop outfit. (well ok, i do have a bundy version of this outfit hanging up somewhere).

Funny thing about this marketing campaign being tagged the ''Golden Suit'' is that I did write to the ARU about 4 mnths ago to make them aware of our group (the ''Golden Suits''). Coincidence im sure, still hopefully people dont associate us with the jump suit.

attempts at building cult following as major marketing ploy: seldom good...exception: tah man (IMHO).

I'm of the opinion that one must earn a wallabies jersey rather than just buy one, so my cynicism is the exact opposite of yours. There's nothing wrong with this promotion. Sure, I wouldn't be seen dead in one, but I'm sure there are a lot of folk out there that will go for it.

Honestly, it's a piss poor effort to generate support. A 15 year old who knows Flash probably made the "ad". Before the last black screen I would have had no idea that it was even relevant to the Wallabies.

I'm not sure why any brand would want their name associated with such a lackluster ad because it fails to do anything other than annoy.

the "brand" came up with the idea, they also put the money up for it. without it, there would be nothing, there fore it is great and should be encouraged. It may "annoy" you but you know about it, therefore it is already working.

Just because it didn't cost the ARU anything doesn't automatically make it a good idea. If the "brand" had any pride they wouldn't have done a half-arsed attempt at showing they're affiliated with the Wallabies.

Castrol sponsor the test series, they have sign postage and ground signage, there paying for a free jumpsuit (as I've said which bundaberg have done before and produce great fun) that have there logo on them and in doing so spread there logo, get more out of there sponsorship and will make a patch of supporters look gold for tv, which will make the games look more fun.

its easy to say its a bad idea, but when its judged against nothing its a brilliant. your not offering any alternative suggestion, so therefore it remains a good idea.

thats the most enigmatic post I've ever seen
See the Troup sub-forum.

We still need a contact/leader in each major city, to really organize a few things. Notably a pre-game pub.

I'm going to attempt to setup a password protected "active area" for the Bledisloe in Sydney.

These supporter bays will not exist come the Four Nations, probably a good thing, somewhat.

This is fine. I never said the concept was bad. I simply said the execution of the ad wasn't up to standard.

A shit is still a shit and unappealing even if it's not compared to something whipped up by a Michelin star chef!
