In the Jarse family and invited guests footy tipping competition on Footytips.com.au, we run several "phantom" tippers including "Home Teams", "Away Teams", "Last Seasons Ladder", and "Coin Toss".

In NRL, typically Home Team is a clear advantage. Last Season's Ladder and Coin Toss are very close do significantly better than Away Team.
In AFL, International Rugby and Super Rugby, Last Season's Ladder is a better form indicator. Home Team and Coin Toss are very close do significantly better than Away Team.

From my unscientific observations, Previous Form rather than Home Ground Advantage is a better guide to predicting winners.

PS. We also run a Favourites Only tipper. This phantom tipper generally is in the top 3 in the competitions, less successful comparatively speaking in Super Rugby. More successful in NRL.

And who gets the pot when these tippers win?
I must say that is a fantastic insight as to the relative importance of the various external elements in the game

So, that's what I meant with this thread. That's about where I thought the Wallabies were at. A disappointing RWC for those who thought we really were #2 in the world, no doubt. We're up there with England (yes) and the Saffers and Wales and Ireland, but we could slip from 2nd to 5th and back again very easily. Just like the John Connelly era. Progress since Deans? Zero. Lessons? Plenty.

The SA supportes on this site would not still be whingeing but instead gloating (probably would still have occupied 70+ pages)
To be honest maybe we should have lost the first one against Wales. That would have gave us a lucky draw like in 2007.

On second thoughts no, glad it did not happened, it would have been a real disaster losing to a second rugby tier nation and it would ghave had the response you qouted.
