Its good to see action from RUPA. But I'm not at all sure this is the best choice of action. Love their petition.
Under a broadly worded clause stating that the competition structure, including player arrangements, be approved by RUPA, these options include vetoing the proposed introduction of Fiji into the competition this year, influencing which Australian teams take part and which players play where.
NRC to kick off in early Sept to accommodate Shute Shield season and GF
In the Annual report the ARU reveal overall TV viewers for the NRC increased by 25% on a per game basis from 2015 and overall delivered a financial surplus
Wow, jumping from 35 to 50 minutes ball in play is inane! How did that happen? Seems a little unbelievable to be honest.
What's interesting is that I actually remember Andrew Swain and Cam Shepard mentioning a conversation they had with Simon Cron while commentating a Rays game last season. According to that conversation Cron had mentioned that the average distance covered by players in Super Rugby was around 10km a game while the average in the NRC was around 14km. Which kind of correlates with the 40+% increase with ball in play.
I don't find it hard to believe that the ball in play time is higher in the NRC than Super Rugby, just that it increased 40% on the NRC in 2015, which was played under pretty much the same laws.
