I found it cringeworthy when he explained how he couldn't fight, but liked having Toutai Kefu behind him when he gobbed off at people. Pity Kefu didn't belt him in the head instead.

Yet, he's still better than Phil Kearns...

Uh oh...

Disagree about Kearns. He has toned it down a lot this year, May not be the world's biggest rugby genius but he wears his hearst on his sleeve and you'll find it hard finding a more decent bloke.

Who would people rate as real analysts they'd like to see more of on a show?

I like Kafer and I must say I hope that Freier ends up on TV. Also like Tune - hated the cheating fucker :) as a player but he is a good analyst - not commentator though).

Having a good conversation there, Blue?

I just posted a message on their 'soapbox' and directed them to this thread. Not sure if it was the best place, but if someone can find a feeback email (ala what smh has), please post it here so that we can send something to them.

Kearns may not be the most insiteful guy (despite his comments about Deans not being on the field as we get blown away in the last 20 minutes), but to me he and Martin are there for colour and their passions, the analysis is Kafer's job.

Hahah. I saw that. They did trhe same last year. Shows the ignorance of Foxsports. It's Western Province, Natal and Free State you twats.
I suspect they do actually realise this, and are trying to get more viewers for the Currie Cup by pointing out the familiarity of the teams to Oz viewers.

Spot on Blue. Kearns is exactly what it says on the packet. He has a good sense of humour and does seem a genuinely good bloke.

Gagger would be a good addition ;)

So did anyone who agreed with JP feel like reaching for the steel wool?

Fp, I agree with many posters re Kearnsey being a kind of 'good bloke' and (just) tolerable, but, really, as you note above that Kearns comment re the continuing losses to the ABs and RD was quite absurd. He said that '...well, those v bad stats for RD re multiple losses to ABs, geez, all of those were in the second half when we led in the first, but that is entirely the players' fault, nothing to do with the coaches...'. The idea that a v consistent bad pattern like that has no link whatever to anything the coaches may be responsible for, eg, game plan, skill levels, selections, bench use, fitness levels, etc is beyond silly.

My principal objection is that young rugby-loving kids watch this program and take this kind of rubbish - as with JP's idiotic outbursts of I-love-Giteau-the-untouchable-icon - as gospel from these apparent greats of the game.

So you're saying a good player can come on TV and act like a spoilt child?

No, I did not say that at any point.

I merely asked a question about the end of his Wallaby career THEN remarked that I think despite all this bashing of his TV personality he played good rugby.

Does anyone reckon they should get someone on there who is 'on the ground' more. I know Marto, Kearns, Kafer, Cannon commentate, but they're not with these teams week to week. Someone like Ian Payten would be at Tahs and Wallabies training everyday, goes on tour with the teams, and could provide an informed insight rather than one from arm's length. It pisses me off no end when those blokes talk about how some people get on, don't get on, how they train, what their attitude is, etc, when you know they are hearing it second or third hand.

Just a thought...

Seriously, a Gagger, or an Austin, or a Lee G or a Lance F, would be a massive improvement on this program. I could also see fp or cyclopath there!

I think this is the whole idea around RuggaMatrix. Obviously TV isn't a realistic medium so they use audio.

With youtube and the blog/forum to advertise it you guys could easily start your own weekly show. I know the Victorian basketball league does it (Big V). There are enough connections on the forum to make it pretty decent.

That's not entirely true, Greg Martin is often floating around the Reds training sessions I am told and generally the commentators are somewhat friends with the players as well. I still like your idea though, a actual team expert would be nice.

I used to watch that rugby show every week in previous years, but could count on one hand the amount of times this year. Cannot stand the host and as noted JP adds absolutely nothing. Marto seems to have less prominence (actually don't mind him), and Kafe's LCDBoard isn't what it used to be.

Caught the last part of cross the ditch, and then switched it over. Gone downhill in my eyes

Must be twats at South African rugby too - that's how they list the teams on their fixture.
