I dont think now is the time to be making long term decisions on things like captaincy. With the world cup next year we need to focus on the short term and have an experienced captain lead the Wallabies through the world cup.
There has been a lot of talk about Genia being captain but I think that is premature. He is an outstanding player and leads by example but is that enough? A great captain will not only lead by example but will also know how inspire them verbally.
If Deans is not happy with Rocky for whatever reason then he could do worse than appoint Nathan Sharpe on a short term basis to take us through the world cup. His form suggests he will be a definite wallaby this year and its reasonable to assume it will hold up for next year.
A few weeks ago when the Force were down 13-0 at half-time to the Crusaders Sharpe apparently gave the guys a stirring speech over oranges and they came out and dusted the Saders in the second half. I think thats the difference between a good captain and a great captain. The difference between experience and 'still learning the job'.
You would also think that the general feeling amongst the players should be taken into account. I would think that the players might respond better to a captain that has years of experience rather than young new-comers like Genia and Pocock.
Finally I would say that if Rocky has the respect and support of the other players, and if there is no signs of discontent in the group then leave Rocky as captain to take us through the RWC and lets look at long term planning in 2012.

agree, rocky should be captain through the world cup and to the lions tour if he decides to stay, i think Genia if he keeps going the way he is should be captain ahead of pocock at that time, but alot can change in a few years.

Rocky until after rwc 11, then Genia if he keeps going like he is.
I don't have an issue with a 9 being a captain, but don't like anyone wider than that. 9 is probably the best position for captaincy, as he is always close to the ref and can see what the forwards are doing (about as much as the ref can anyway).

A year or so ago I was worried about the dearth of captaincy candidates for the Wallabies. I worry no longer. Rocky is doing a fine job and there are several candidates for his successor including especially Horwill, Genia, Pocock and Mumm who has deputized well for Waugh at times this year and was an outstanding leader of the midweek Wallabies in Europe last year. Another who may have credentials but has not been seen as a named captain or vice-captain is Polota-Nau.

In our dreadful game against Scotland last year their scrumhalf delayed the put in to the scrum. Euan Murray didn't play at THP that day; so we had scrum dominance which the scrummie wanted to counter by delay. We Aussies recognised the ploy because we had watched Gregan play for the Wallabies so often.
An astute captain would have been right up the referees date on the matter but Rocky didn't say boo. I don't think that Genia would have said anything either. Like it or not, but the Smits, the McCaws, the POCs and even the Dusautoirs of the rugby world add value to their team because they speak out judiciously. Referees are human.
