Now don't know if everyone has realised that there is proper scrums in the hybrid game, so you need a front row on the park. Or at least hope your flankers can learn to scrum.
If i was to go with a non-scrummaging forward pack it would be
8-McCalman
9-Genia
10-Palu
11-Elsom
12-Higginbotham
13-Pocock

This concept would never work, and to be honest I hope that it doesnt, or if it does it is just a charity thing.

Dave Dennis could be another option no one has thought about. Big and quick. I agree though regarding some playing the hybrid at that level. Would seriously degrade both codes. However, just for curiousity though I would like to see that Wallabies side play the Roos in a game of League. I think the Leaguies would be in for one hell of a shock especially with that pack.

If union rules apply to the scrums, why not have the Wallaby front row? This is all assuming that the refs hold the scrums the union standard of rules. I suggest this with reserve though, as Auggies hardly dominated this area - however I simply cannot fathom how the league "props" would make it out without their backs bent over. In addition I do not agree Fat Cat and co. couldn't keep with the league defence game. Even so, use the league interchange rules to our advantage and swap the props around fairly frequently. Lineout is another key comparative advantage, would play either Horwill or Sharpe to dominate that set-piece.
Forwards: Fat Cat, TPN, Alexander, Elsom, Palu, Horwill
Backs:
7. Cooper
6. Beale
5. Mitchell
4. Ioane
3. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper)
2. Turner
1. JOC (James O'Connor)
Bench: Slipper, Pocock, Hinningbotham, Barnes.

Sharpe would be great - lots of strong runs and dominate both lineouts

Appears that the hybrid game is gaining momentum again. NRL CEO David Smith met at ARU head quarters this week.

NRL chief executive Dave Smith and ARU counterpart Bill Pulver have attended a secret briefing from the organisers pushing for a hybrid game between the codes. Smith and Pulver were in the same room to hear a pitch from a consortium hoping to finally make the historic clash a reality. While NRL insiders were at pains to talk down any interest in the event, the fact the pair even attended is intriguing, given their predecessors, David Gallop and John O'Neill, would never dream of getting together to explore the concept.

Interesting rumours in the rest of the article

IMHO there is nothing to gain for Rugby apart from a possible short term one off cash injection, and everything to gain for Mungoball.

I say ignore the silly pretend game and let it wither and die on the vine for the lack of international credibility. Don't give them any oxygen whatsoever.

About the only thing worthy of adopting on an experimental basis from their code might be the use of two referees. This sounds doable in theory but even that will have problems. Maybe we just need to give the AR's more powers and better communications with the main man in the middle.

I'd actually like to see more use of technology to determine things like the offside line and advantage. Something similar to what the NFL use to highlight their downs. A line could appear on the monitor where the offside line sits and the TMO could help administer it. Same with advantage. It varies a great deal depending on the ref in charge. By using the same tech as I'm suggesting you could clearly set an advantage line and a count down in which to achieve this. Again the TMO would administer.

I don't see how you could apply a regimented system to the advantage law. Tactical advantage is defined as "freedom to play the ball as one wishes" and I don't know how you could put a time limit or a particular line on the field on whether a team has secured this freedom or not. Even guidelines like "2 passes is enough for a scrum advantage" don't always work because it depends on how much pressure is on the players and a whole range of other factors too numerous to list.

Of all the issues that rugby has with regard to its laws and refereeing, I think application of the advantage law would be right at the bottom.

im not sure i like the fact theres only 13 people on the field. Big advantage for the league team! why not go halfway between the two and say 14 players?
