A brave effort from the Reds but they may be disappointed not to take the points. Mystified that the yellow card was reversed by the ref following Perenara fibbing off, pivotal moment that. Lance had a shocker with the boot that’s for sure, and Daugunu does show his inexperience at times.

Can’t fault the effort though, good stuff.

I don't see any logic in pulling Stewart -- we have no other fly half for next year. Pull Lance and move Stewart into 10. We know he's not a 15 so don't fucking play him there. Literally the only thing Thorn hasn't tried is Lance at 15. the thing he should be doing.
Was he injured? Had ice on his knee or thigh when he sat down.

I was very disappointed at the end of the game - but then it occurred to me that at 5.30 I was thinking ‘please don’t be a massacre’.

I thought Higgers was very good tonight & Smith too. ASY (Angus Scott-Young) continues to impress.

Tupou is getting better and better. I thought he was pressing for a spot in the Wallabies 23, but he must really be in the frame for a starting gig. Best prop we have around the field, but his scrummaging is bloody impressive too.

I hope Ready gets a decent turn in the squad this time. Whatever his issues off the field he still looks class to me.

But if we have a better forward then Rodda at moment, I’ve missed them. Gee he is playing well. I was pretty excited to see what Tui would develop into, but Rodda really looks the goods.

Didn’t watch the game but 38-34 is pretty damn good in Wellington against what sounded like a 16 man Hurricanes side. Sort of result that gives you just a twinge of optimism about Australian Rugby.

Kinda interested to see this non-yellow card incident.
To be honest, I think that decision was fair enough in the end.

I don’t like the Perenara was able to influence the decision like that (O’Keefe had the cards out of his pocket), but then last weekend he was criticised for not going to the video ref after Hooper asked him to.

Any decent replays of Barrett's high shot before our last try floating around?

If a Red had done that, Fox Sports Aus would've replayed it a million times until he was carded. Meanwhile, Sky Sports Sports NZ just bury it like it never happened.

Kerevi's inability to defend costs the Reds dearly, he represents all that is wrong with Australian Rugby. The earlier teenage developer who could just run over the top of opposition, and to the shame of Australian Rugby he has progressed to Super Rugby, without a clue on defense. I doubt this lack of skill and application to defense would be tolerated in ITM Cup in New Zealand.

I maybe wrong but I think he is out of contract come seasons end, interesting that he hasn't been re signed at this stage of the season, wouldn't be surprised if Thorn lets him depart.

Don't fall to the assumption that just because his re-signing hasn't been announced it hasn't happened.

I'd be staggered if Thorn let him go considering he's captained the side on a number of times this year (and actually seemed to do a fair chunk of the talking tonight). He scored a try and threw the last pass to another and was dangerous most times he touched the ball and made more metres per run than any other Red.

According to stats he was the third most effective Reds backline defender tonight. Petia didn't miss one of his 7 tackles (100%), Lance missed 2 of his 13 (85%) and Kerevi missed 3 of his 11 (79%). Then there was Stewart on 71%, Daugunu on 70%, Paia'aua 60% and Lucas 55%

His attacking skills are OK, could do with passing a bit more however this only one half of the skills you need to play a game of rugby as the other 50% of the game you will be in defense.

However quoting missed tackles is not the full truth, many times Kerivi is so badly positioned or so easily loses his nerve and drawn out of the line or off his man that he never lays a hand on a ball carrier and is so far away I don't think these necessarily register as missed tackles.

Bit harsh I feel, he’s much better than ok in attack and would threaten every defensive line in the competition. His distribution has improved over the years and the Brumbies would kill to have someone of his attacking quality in their backline. His defence is poor compared to his attack but he does seem to play the role of the shooter (much like Hooper does at times) which will increase his missed tackle count. It’s easy to deride big centres who are somewhat one-dimensional but there’s a reason Kerevi has consistently been the Reds’ biggest attacking weapon over the last 3 years and a smaller guy, seemingly with all the skills, like Jordan Jackson Hope is still a fringe player for the Brumbies.

Well done Reds, bloody good effort, great bounce back to relevance

I may be a heretic here but I think you guys are building a pretty strong team but being kids still learning the consistency needed for pro rugby

Not really heretical - I think we all see it.

We just desperately need better halves, an actual well-rounded fullback - even someone like Andries Coetzee from the Lions would change the look of our backline overnight, settling on our backrow combination would probably help too (is 6 the long-term position for ASY (Angus Scott-Young)?), and some tightening up around the line out would probably have us with 2 more wins on the record.

If they can manage those changes it should push the Reds over the lip into actually being a consistent team at the Super Rugby comp level.

I think Timu, Higgers & Smith is clearly our first choice back row, but Korcyzk, Wright & ASY (Angus Scott-Young) have all made a pretty good fist of the opportunities they have been given. It’ll be interesting how things transpire.

Mate I wasn't sure if that was 40 year old George or 20 year old George! He turned back the hands of time with that one!
I think our biggest issue is in our halves Sorovi has to my mind taken the starting Jersey from Lucas. Not sure why Stewart was pulled but on accrual of Lance and Stewart's performance, he's gotta be closer to starting at 10 for us.
