After what seems like a ridiculously long break, the Series rolls into Wellington NZ on Feb 6 & 7. In case you're wondering why Friday/Saturday rather than the usual Sat/Sun, it's because the 6th is Waitangi Day a.k.a. New Zealand Day so a Public Holiday.

Pool A South Africa, France, USA, Japan
Pool B New Zealand, England, Canada, PNG
Pool C Australia, Fiji, Wales, Portugal
Pool D Argentina, Scotland, Kenya, Samoa

Top 4 going into Wellington:

59 South Africa
51 Fiji
47 New Zealand
46 Australia

IIRC Cama was initially left out've a squad due to injury then just never recalled. Lote on the other hand got dropped mid-2014.

This is concerning:

"With less than a week to go until this year's tournament begins, about 17,500 tickets to the 34,500-capacity Westpac Stadium have been sold, and organisers are facing up to the prospect of a fair few empty yellow seats."

http://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/rugby/...-sevens-seats-slow-to-sell-but-party-still-on

This is even more concerning:

[Auckland Nines] Organisers stopped giving ticket sales updates at 41,000 earlier in week. If you want to grab a ticket on game day chances are you can - however it could be pricey.

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/sport/news/article.cfm?c_id=4&objectid=11394444

I do remember reading that the 7's organisers had been put on notice that they could lose the tournament if numbers didn't improve. That would be a shame as it's a great venue (and plenty to do within walking distance between your team's matches e.g. the Ferryman pub across the road, the bars down Courtney Place (although I see Molly Malones is no more)).

"Between 2002 and 2012, the event sold out each year. In 2011, it took just three minutes."

Hard to escape the conclusion that it's a bit've a double-whammy: too many drunks for the liking of those looking for a family day(s) out so they've cracked down on the drunks & lost them as well without getting the families back........

FWIW I'm watching the Nines & it's mostly shite, you wouldn't know it's 9-a-side if Vossy & Halligan weren't reminding everyone every 20 seconds. Best game so far IMO was the Aussie v Kiwi women.

There's currently a ODI at Westpac stadium, that doesn't seem like good timing.

If you're worried about the ground, don't: tomorrow or Monday they'll pull up the drop-in pitch & bring in a replacement block of turf: same soil, same blend of grasses, prepared just up the road so as near to a piece of Westpac as can be.

Foxtel are putting it on HD channel - bastards.
I've been wanting to upgrade to the new IQ3 set top which was supposed to come out at the end of 2013 & still no sign of. My IQ1 won't do HD.

Don't all the Foxsports channels come in HD and SD? Either 200s or 500s. At least they do for me.

Oops, my bad. I saw a post somewhere that said it was on HD on Foxtel, and I jumped to conclusions. But I have just checked Foxtel's TV Guide and it is also there for standard viewing.
They're still bastards though re IQ3 set top box delay with continuous announcements that prove to be wrong. But Foxsport does give great rugby coverage.

Mikkelson replaced by Murphy Taramai, one of the guys who missed the cut from 16 to 12. Can't say I know anything about him but if Titch thinks he's next cab off the rank he must go OK.
