There are reports circulating in the NZ media that due to poor ticket sales, the Hong Kong Bledisloe test match could be moved.

A possible alternative is London, however the respective unions are planning to go ahead with the match despite only 10,000 of the 40,000 tickets being sold so far...

Sydney, Sept 7 NZPA - The Hong Kong Bledisloe Cup rugby test next month is reportedly under threat due to poor ticket sales.

Television news reports in New Zealand tonight said the fourth trans-Tasman international of the year, scheduled for Hong Kong Stadium on October 30, might be relocated to England that weekend before the All Blacks and Wallabies start their northern hemisphere tours.

A New Zealand Rugby Union spokesman confirmed there was concern about sluggish ticket sales but no decision had been made on the fixture's future.

Less than 10,000 tickets had been purchased so far for the 40,000-seat venue.

Hong Kong Stadium hosted the inaugural Bledisloe Cup test on neutral ground in 2008, an occasion that did not attract a sellout crowd.

Last year the match was held in Japan at Tokyo's Olympic Stadium, where ticket giveaways were required to boost crowd numbers.

England rugby headquarters at Twickenham in London has previously been explored as the setting for a revenue-generating test between the trans-Tasman rivals.

Asian locations took precedence because of a desire to grow the game in that region.

The All Blacks start their Grand Slam tour at Twickenham on November 6 before tests against Scotland, Ireland and Wales on successive weekends.

Australia's tour covers tests against Wales, England, Italy and France plus midweek games against Irish province Munster and England's Leicester.

Not sure if it is the most reliable source.

In terms of rugby? No.

In terms of financially? Yes.

Though, obviously the investment hasn't paid off in this case.

HK was a poor choice this year. The last game was soulless, passionless and I would doubt that any non-rugby lovers even went. There was no real motivation to have it here again. I didnt' go to the Tokyo match, but alot of my colleagues did and they echo'd the sentiments.

If it had to be abroad, it perhaps should have gone to Denver, where there was talk earlier this year. Proper promotion & it would get a decent sized crowd in. Abeilt, one that probably wouldn't have a clue what was going on, but more worthwhile than here in HK for sure.

TV may have been an issue; a lot of games in foreign lands don't get much attention because people can't be bothered getting up early.

Fuck I hope it's Twickenham. Selfish perhaps, but I only get to see the Wallabies play England, a Bledisloe would be the tiiiits.

Just have it at Suncorp stadium - it will be a sell out easily and a 50/50 crowd support due to the uncontrollable numbers of NZers flooding the city of Brisbane...like rats.

If we're going to have it in England, I know this will give one of my teams away but I think Elland Road in Leeds would be a good choice.

It has hosted major rugby league internationals over the years and is home to what was once a giant of English soccer.

Plus the atmosphere generated at Elland Road is second to none.

Millenium Stadium with the roof closed so that NH weather doesn't spoil the spectacle.

Doesn't the Millenium Stadium have issues with their surface though?

I have watched quite a few games on tv played there and I have heard the same thing every time.

Wembley has the Denver Broncos playing the San Fransisco 49ers on the 31st, so that is a no go. Hey NZRU/ARU. If the Broncos are in London, that means this is empty in Denver. Pity you decided to play it safe and go to Honkers again.

I'd say just give it to London. Maybe Emirates Stadium, or Twickenham. I think this just shows what a success RWC 2019 will be....

DPK, if you have a minute I'll explain the relationship between longitude, latitude and timezones. :)
