So it appeared as though the Tahs got through the Queensland game without any injuries.

Who knows how AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) has progressed this week but you'd imagine that they won't be rushing him back unless they're completely sure that he's got no further issues with his knee. Carraro was obviously excellent.

If they play like they did against the Reds but improve their handling they should go well over in Dunedin.

They created enough opportunities to win three games. They just didn't execute well enough.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the same 23 named for this game.

ABC Radio reporting this morning that AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) will be out for a month with his knee problem.

Waratahs wingers have been placed on notice to do extra catch and pass training, and less breakdown assist work.

Cheika said in the press conference after the last game that he was highly unlikely and they would take it easy on him, him being old and such ;)

Nice and subtle. Gave me a chuckle.

There was a line in an article stating AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) was targeting the Stormers game. :/

I really hope Folau gets an opportunity at 13.

I don't always manage to watch Waratahs games but personally I don't think much is lost with Carraro from what little I've seen of him. He seems to have a great footballing brain, good defence and tackling, no glaring weaknesses. His only problem is that sometimes, with a guy unmarked outside him, he is choosing to pass the ball right onto that person's chest at the perfect time, rather than dummying, stepping back in and getting isolated.

This game should be a cracker. The Tahs need to win if they're going to keep in touch with the ladder leaders.

Looks like Gibson agrees:

Waratahs attack coach Daryl Gibson believes Israel Folau's destiny lies in the NSW midfield after a successful foray there against the Reds in Brisbane on Saturday.
In a largely unheralded move, the Waratahs named dual international Folau at fullback for their clash with Queensland but regularly switched him to outside centre on Saturday night, leaving Peter Betham to move to fullback and No.13 Matt Carraro and Rob Horne to play on the wings in defence.
The switch has been talked about for some time, but was not expected to happen until much later this season.
A knee injury to regular No.13 Adam Ashley-Cooper prompted Gibson and head coach Michael Cheika to accelerate the transition, and it was declared a success on Tuesday.
"I think he's got a real future playing 'up front'," Gibson said.
"The opportunity with Adam out is that we can gradually just keep exposing [Folau] to those centre-type positions. And given the experience there and given time, that will be become his natural position."
There is no rush among the coaches to make the move official and hand Folau the No.13 jersey, Gibson declaring that Ashley-Cooper was still the team's "No.1 centre".
The Waratahs can see a benefit in occupying the space between, although with Ashley-Cooper sidelined for a month it appears Folau could have extra time to get comfortable in his new role.
"It would be horrible trying to analyse us at the moment because we are constantly shifting," Gibson said. "One day [an official switch to No.13 for Folau] will happen.
"We're looking at our back line and, particularly with Adam out, how we can best utilise everyone's strengths and skills. While that can be complicated because we're always swapping positions, we believe that's the best way and how we can be most effective.
"Because we shift defensively as well, we need lots of wingers who are defensively comfortable in the centres, so someone like Matt Carraro is pretty important to us, and Rob Horne. All with centre backgrounds, but equally capable playing in the midfield. At the moment we're really trying to use everyone's skills to their maximum."
The Waratahs play the Highlanders in Dunedin on Saturday.

Read: wingers need to cover defensively for Beale.

Good for the Tahs, bad for the Wallabies.

Well the structure they played against the Reds was Beale and Folau defending at the back in defence and playing 12 and 13 on most occasions in attack.

In the second half, Beale came into first receiver a lot and Foley shifted wider.

Beale's defence is clearly the weakest part of his game but he's been putting his shoulder in and tackling quite well this season.

It's up to other teams to exploit that but in 2014 they struggled and so far this year it hasn't happened yet.

I'm not sure why we need Izzy at 13 for the Wallabies when a, He's killing it at fullback and we don't have anyone of the same quality to replace him and b, TK is also killing it at 13, with AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) now as 2nd in line.

All he did was come into 13 on attack a few times.

They're not about to select him there.

It's hardly reinventing his rugby or changing the fact that he's the 15.

It just helps add another string to his bow.

Transfer that forward to the Wallabies, you could potentially have Kuridrani running a similar line off an attacking lineout like the try he scored against the Force last Friday. Folau is lined up at 13 if Kuridrani doesn't get the ball for a different play wider out.

Surely having more of your players capable of doing more things is likely to give you the sort of attacking options likely to work for a first phase try against the best teams.

Sure, but there are those (hi Qwerty!) on this board who want him at outside centre full time. Lining up in different channels I totally get -- it keeps the defence guessing.

I'd almost put the house on them naming the same backline in the same positions for this Saturday. The only reason they won't is that there is an injury we haven't heard about.

Well maybe not in the next few weeks but Gibson clearly said he will be a full time 13 in the future..
