We've been in contact with enforcer and are currently wrangling with his agent

Fair play Gagger, always good to see the leaders of a community willing to give a leg up to a young member. All the best to Enforcer.

Had dealings with Josh Rakic when he was a sports and general news guy for the local rag in Noosa whilst I was a publicity officer for the local outrigger club in the mid noughties, and from then on he took a huge step to SMH...

Suggest do what he did, work for a local paper in the countryside or for a community newspaper somewhere in the city...and have time to write blogs/reports for rugby websites perhaps?

Whatever happens, good luck!

I would also say that if you want to end up in a media unit (rather than at a paper), journalistic experience is the best way to get there. Top media/comms people often have at least some background in media itself -- makes a huge difference with contacts, knowing how the media game works, knowing what they want, etc.

A big part of writing for whoever will publish you is establishing your own style. Once you've written a season of game reviews you'll find them much easier to push out in a consistent form, something that you'll have time constraints on when you do land a role.

Best tip is if you want to be a writer sharpen your pencil start writing and send your work to local papers and post often create blogs etc, your profile will grow by experience, when you get a chance to be interviewed the editor will admire your commitment, meanwhile you'll hone your writing skills...
