I can't believe Richie considered putting his face in the way of Greyling's elbow. Best angle 19 secs in.
You almost sound kind of happy that McCaw was smacked in the head?
I think he was being a tad ironic, Frank. Calm down. You almost sound kind of happy that McCaw was smacked in the head???
Greyling should got a much longer sentence - IMO
Two weeks for that only makes rugby seem like a thug's game.
Who isn't!? On second look I thought Vermulean's cleanout was illegal too but it looks fine. Greyling should've got 10+ weeks.
Look at the below video at about 1:51 of Vermuelen attempting to clean out Richie. Yes his shoulder connects with Richie's head, but how else was he supposed to clean him out? The only thing visible above the other bodies was possibly part of McCaw's shoulder and his head. Which part of their bodies do players generally lead with when attempting to clear out at a ruck? Possibly a penalty against Vermuelen at most IMO (which the AB's got anyway).Surprised Vermuelen was not cited as well. I reckon a shoulder to the head is actually more dangerous, not in any way excusing Greyling one bit.
I struggle to believe you can really argue that deliberate shoulder clean out to a player's head is ever appropriate. It just isn't.Look at the below video at about 1:51 of Vermuelen attempting to clean out Richie. Yes his shoulder connects with Richie's head, but how else was he supposed to clean him out? As for Greyling, he should have got minimum 4 or 5 weeks. That was absolutely ridiculous and should be rubbed out of the game. There's no excuse for that behaviour and he cost his team dearly. Not to mention the damage he does to the reputation of South African rugby.
I struggle to see what other part of his body he could have used to clean McCaw out in that situation in an attempt to make it less cynical. McCaw's head and top of his shoulder are resting on Bekker's body while his hands are hanging onto the ball below.I struggle to believe you can really argue that deliberate shoulder clean out to a player's head is ever appropriate. Maybe, if a player cannot be cleaned out legally, they shouldn't attempt it by such means.I struggle to see what other part of his body he could have used to clean McCaw out in that situation in an attempt to make it less cynical. Is Little Richie OK?
