To be fair, Woodcock was completely outplayed by Ma'afu last year when the Brumbies pack smashed them all night in the scrum...

Unfortunately for the Brumbies that night the Blues knew how to score tries...

an unfit Nau is still the best 2 in the country

I know what you mean, but if he can't play more than a handful of games in a row without injuring himself his worth becomes less and less.

My reasoning is thus:-

1. Daley was very solid against a good tight head in the scrum. He lifted very well at Lineout and was strong in the tight work he did. He extras in loose running and support play were also very good. Robinson was almost as good, but the Tahs did not play as a choesive unit and he is a part of that.
2. Hanson - 100% lineout stat when he came on. Scrum improved when he came on. Strong in tight. TPN is on his knees at nearly every stoppage. If he isn't fit he shouldn't be playing, he we see the lack of depth in NSW Hooker, there has been no development below TPN and Fitz. TPN did what he did very well but he was then on his knees and not involved like the two QLd Rakes.
3. Slipper - anchored the scrum very very well, even with a weak Hooker (Finger) in the first half. Kudos to Link and Alec Evans for their development of this huge talent. Slipper did everything you could ask of a THP and didn't concede a penalty at scrum time.

16. S. Finger - simply because TPN is not fit and he was very good at everything and exceeded my expectations at the scrum (which I had worried could be targetted by the Bulls).
17. Kepu - the only NSW forward who I didn't see walking at some stage. He was in nearly everything or was buried at the ruck. Two very good loose runs to top off his core work at the scrum and lineout and in tight. It was a close run thing with Slipper but combination got Slipper the nod. Kepu to cover both sides.

Other spots speak for themselves IMO.

Of note some comments from a few Brumbies supporters, who had been previously fervent supporters of Alexander. The problems that are becoming even more evident as time goes on were why I was so critical of him last year. I got accused of being parochial and at one stage even having a personal dislike of him. What I saw saying then was he has a massive flaw in his scrum technique (and it isn't just on the LH side) and it should have been attended to by the Wallabies and Brumbies coaches a long time before now. He is a very big talent but he WILL become the next Matt Dunning (talent and promise unfulfilled) if somebody doesn't address these issues. Whilst on the front row issue I never ever want to see Ma'afu near the Wallabies jersey again, the bloke is a fool. Apart from the fact I do not rate him in the top five TH props nearly ever game you will see him engage in some off the ball push and shove with an opponent, often coming in late to do it. He did it again on the weekend.

Regarding Samo, he had some big impact moments, and some average moments (like where he was sent flying in an attempted tackle by the Bulls prop), and lots of walking moments, which unless you were at the game you wouldn't have noticed. Samo injected himself and had a good impact when he did, but it was between bouts of lots of walking. I can't fault his impact, but think Samo will always struggle to keep up with the pace of the Reds games. I would suspect that against less physical packs than the Bulls he won't start.

I reckon Samo was just still fatigued after his massive performance last week against the Stormers

I was happy to see him subbed at 45min

What was noticeable on the TV though was Samo sucking in the bigs ones, and not when he scored that try either.

Seems to be still building to match fitness.
