Shades of PdV clown like decision making last night.

It was quite obvious that the game plan wasn't working from about 5 minutes in and yet we did not change.

Captain Elsom has the responsibility to make a decision to change tactics on the field. If he doesn't change, then Dingo has to send a runner on to tell him to do so.

Like the Pom Generals in WW1, we continued to keep doing the same old thing, expecting the results to be somehow different each time we try to do the same old thing.

Neither Elsom nor Deans appeared to make any tactical changes last night. Poor leadership.

Yep Jarse. What makes it worse is that the tactics are a return of the game plan or lack there of of all the Tests up to the 1st Saffa Test. Then we saw a massive change and the wide ball and attack from depth. Today Deans obviously tried to play narrow with the heavy conditions and rush defence with the same results as happened previously.

Thing is if you choose to play narrow why pick Cooper et al and a mobile type pack. Don't you go for solid sluggers up front and tactical kicker like Barnes?

The game plan/selection is a failure on so many levels.

I slept through the game last night and missed post match interviews.
The fox replay didn't show any post game stuff.

Did Dingo say anything that made sense?
Did any journo ask any hard questions or was it the usual sycophantic ones?

Rocky, Moore and AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) all deserved good rankings. AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) did not get much in attack but he defended his arse off last night.

#1?

Larry Dwyer (12)
Can't recall AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) making a pass last night. Back to his usual ball hogging. One of the better backs on defence though.

Yeah, AAC (Adam Ashley-Cooper) passed it a couple of times. That was not his problem. He missed tackles he would normally have made, and he didn't really threaten to bust the line as much as we expect.

All the points made are obvious and correct, but for mine a huge problem was the lack of penetration in the centres. The Poms stood up on (or over?) the gain line all game, Moody covered fantastically well, and Giteau et al were unable to make any headway. The problem is a lack of size, and talk of moving JOK into 12 would only exacerbate the problem. We desperately need Mortlock or his like (Chambers?) to provide some punch in the centres.
Much of the excessive kicking was a reaction to the size/penetration problem. Ditto many of the defensive problems out wide. What will happen when we face a Nonu/SBW/combo next year?

The one rating I don't agree with is Moore. He was Australia's MOM - look at the stats quoted elsewhere on the blog. In my view he was a 9, and I don't think any other forward was better than 7. The reason Fainga'a never made it onto the park was that fresh or not he would have been worse than Moore was when he was tired. An awesome performance, if two other forwards had matched it we could have reversed the result.

Sure England played very well, way better rugby than I had ever expected, but the turning point was the Genia turnover. Had we scored at that point I think we would have run over them in the last ten minutes. So its not time to slash wrists yet, we just need to rethink some of the gameplans and change a few players. I always thought we could still pull it out of the fire up till the 75 minute mark, like the way New Zealand pulled it out of the fire in Sydney.

Robinson wasn't that bad. He did some good breakdown work and was unfairly penalised by Joubert numerous times.

where can we find some players capable of executing game plans but with a big streak of **** in them? Maybe I had too many on board but I could not see any real intent of dominating contact. i'm sorry for all the mothers out there but I want to see forwards flying fucking horizontal in contact with no regard for their personal safety, early in the match I want to see one of our second rowers clearly in disneyland as a result of the mother of all cleanouts gone wrong, I want to see pocock getting the shit kicked out of him by the opposition, I want to see Elson charging onto the ball pumping his arms and legs like a lunatic. I want to see the opposition blow up and a bit of push and shove as a result... Jesus boys how about just laying down the law by dominating the collisions and then standing up to whatever they have got. If we get beat, so be it, at least our effort will be a lot closer to 100% than what was dished up last night.

Slasher, the reason you don't see Rocky charging so much these days is because he is exhausted from all the work he has to do at the break down - particularly for certain locks who go missing.

Maaaaaaaaaaaaaate,
You have to be kidding - did a bit of work and agree penalised unfairly a couple of times - watch him closely he is a passenger, Alexander much more involved and a benefit to the team

I would have to watch the game again, at times I thought it was Robinson and it was Pocock whilst at other times I thought it was Robinson and it was Pocock

Player Mins Tack Offload Runs (m) Ruck/Maul Pen Free T/Over Miss.Tack
Benn Robinson 56 12 3 (13m) 3 3 1
Ben Alexander 80 9 1 8 (48m) 7 2 1 4
James Slipper 24 2 2 (26m) 2 1 2

Stats-wise, apart from the penalties, Robinson was OK

Fatprop - thanks for those stats, but surely cannot be correct - Benn R did 12 offloads and ONLY hit 3 Rucks and Mauls - if that is right then horrible stats (rucks and mauls) over 56 minutes (isn't it)
