Of all the law changes that one will have the least impact I reckon. With the various exemptions and resubstituions we already have 10 subs a match anyway

POSSIBLE RULE CHANGES

*No direct kicks for touch from inside the 22 metres to encourage ball in hand counter-attack *A power try — scored from a move starting in the 22 metres — will be worth nine points with no conversion needed.

*Penalties reduced from three to two points

*Defence a further five metres back at the scrum

*A side retains possession if the ball is kicked from their own 40m and bounces out in the opposition 22 metres

*No ‘mark” call in the 22 metres

*Ten rolling substitutions

*Reduced time for kick-offs and penalties

*Red-carded players can be replaced after 15 minutes.

Copied from Foxsports.

Yes, limited to 10 subs.

I take it HIA and blood will be a free sub and also if a specialist front rower is needed if one is carded is also a free sub.

It will be interesting to see how it is used.

I am assuming we are still using a match day 23, so if all those are intended to be used, that takes 8 subs. So there is 2 extra to play with, to return a player to field after giving him a spell. Don't know how that will have a big effect on managing fatigue for the whole team. Perhaps give Genia and Hooper a break for 15 mins early in the second half and then send them back for the last 10.

I'm curious what the 10ms from the scrum will eventuate it. My guess is a lot of crash ball from the winger.

There's something familiar about some of these proposed rule changes, but fortunately I don't see any mention of a "play the ball" or dummy half........

So we are are say 3 months away from start of global rapid rugby and still no teams announcement - they look to be struggling to get all the stars aligned and all 8 teams on board for February kickoff

This is a herculean challenge, no doubt about it, let us hope that it does not crash and burn. That would be a huge waste of potential for the game.

I have said this a few times, in different contexts. The most important single thing when undertaking a strategy review, or the development of new strategy, is to set achievable objectives.

The objectives that have been set for GRR are extraordinarily difficult, verging on impossible, I would say.

I hope there is adequate success, obviously a lot of time and money is being expended. Not to mention the aspirations of some real rugby fans.

If Kiwis ever become involved in this, this rule alone will ensure they win nearly every match.

No one scores a try from their own 22 quite like the Kiwis.

The greatest try of all time was scored against the Keewees, mate. 1973, Gareth Edwards for the Baabaas.

I'm sure I saw Serge Blanco score against us from inside the French in goal.

But the point about the NZers is well made. The Crusaders scored the first, and possibly the only, 9 point super try in the WRC.

I do wonder if there is an element of timing with this new comp. Nothing has been confirmed regards Super rugby except no Pacific team & it looks like the Sunwolves are going to be retired (which is all a bit comical when only a couple of years ago, we had expand or die shoved down our throat every day).
So it looks increasing likely that Super rugby will go back to a model that was deemed financially unsustainable only a few years ago.
The point is if Twiggy can hobble together a half decent competition this year with future prospects, what does that do to a relaunch of Super rugby a competition considered by many flawed beyond repair.

Appreciate tough gig getting this competition up and running for end of February. Cutting it fine - hopefully they pull it off. Disappointed that NSWRU did not have the foresight to recognise the opportunity for investment in pro rugby in Western Sydney with all the flow on benefits with zero risk to NSWRU. But then again when it comes to NSWRU you can only expect disappointment and they sure do help make a strong case for a centralised model.

Hearing that the start date has been pushed back to April, and two teams named in initial reports have backed out.

Not surprised to hear start date pushed back as given now mid december end of feb start date was looking unrealistic. Wonder which 2 teams pulled out. Japanese teams?

2 teams out? Hardly surprising given the uphill battle they have been given. Disappointing all the same.

Reckon one is Singapore as on other forums those based there have mentioned not hearing anything about it and probably the Hawaiian team as there's very little chance of them getting a team together in such a short time frame. Most of the other teams have some kind of core grouping to build off. These two were likely having to build from scratch.
