Global Rapid Rugby

Expect the announcements to come thick and fast over the next two weeks.
Obviously some more rule changes to come.
Hopefully in an effort to achieve more game time than the current 34-35 minute average.

Love to see Tiggy's comp get up and be successful, but Global Rapid Rugby is an awful, awful name

particularly when used like this:

Rapid development of local communities
• Rapid growth of new rugby markets
• Rapid appeal beyond traditional rugby fans
• Rapid development of new talent
• Rapid game style
• Rapid broadcast
• Rapid match day entertainment

So no Japanese team it seems?

Western Force
Hawaii
Fiji
Hong Kong
Singapore
Malaysia

FF (Folau Fainga'a) do you know if there is intent to have more teams next year?

I understand that Panasonic is locked in but no announcements until World Rugby's final endorsement next week.

The composition of some of the teams, despite the locations, will draw attention.

actually it says 8 teams from 6 countries. There are 6 countries listed already.

Which country will double have extra teams?

Interestinglt the map detailing locations still has NSW on it. But its been mentioned several times about as many as two Japanese teams being involved. So may be them.

What I find most interesting is the Hawaii group already being committed and Malaysia being on board. Not a surprise on either as the Hawaii group have been looking at getting involved in Rugby for some time. But Malaysia entering in 2019 is. From memory they are working to get professional structures up domestically and at least for a time had backing from a local billionaire.

That’s legit embarrassing

I thought this new comp was supposed to be full of marketing savvy
rapid marketing savvy

Is there a decent rugby stadium in Malaysia somewhere already? Presumably KL? Always wanted an excuse for a trip to that part of the world

It has NZ on the map as well, which I thought was not happening. On the main page it says 8 teams from 6 countries but then the infographic on the RR page says 6-8 teams so it seems some of it is still to be decided. Interesting that they talk about the investment in China and India starting immediately.

I just had a bit of a google around. Not much rugby happening in Malaysia, to put it kindly.
