Apparently the only rugby writing people want that isn't related to a specific match is to reprint ARU media releases.

No, i dont want ARU media reprints, but i also dont want the Wallabies Head coach to be dragged through the mud with wild and unfounded speculation such as an affair rumour, which was spread by georgina and the SMH. admittedly she wasnt the worst, but alot of what came out from her "unnamed souce in the wallaby camp" was drivel.

Why should rugby union be immune to standard investigative journalism practices?

There are multiple threads complaining about the lack of oversight, transparency and decision making at the ARU yet when the media holds them to account, it's dragging them through the mud.

You can't have it both ways.

How is accusing the head coach of having an affair, without any proof at all, holding the ARU accountable? this wasnt an issue with the ARU it was much more personal than that. Every wallabies coach has copped criticism, deans copped alot more than Ewen did. But it was never a personal attack on Deans integrity as a person. thats what i had a problem with.

Yes but these are two very different subjects from very different people.

Robinson and her Fairfax cohorts ran with the follow rumors that not a single source has verified:
  • McKenzie and Patson were having an affair;
  • Patson provided a falsified CV;
  • Patson was hired due to their relationship;
  • Said relationship was questioned by Qld Reds and the Reds were happy to see them leave.
In addition Patson's performance in her job was heavily scrutinized and criticized despite the fact that nobody knew what her role was. They seemed more intent on criticizing her than finding out what she was supposed to do, trotting out the same line over and over again but never once referencing any queries to the ARU about her role.
The people in the ARU threads seem to be looking for a hole in anything the ARU does and imply that everything they do is part of a deceptive purpose. Point in case, the memberships and the participation figures. People in the ARU threads seem to think these are some figures the franchises and ARU throw out to pull the wool over our eyes, when in fact they are using the same measures to count these as other codes in order to appeal to sponsors, government, etc. and grow revenue sources.
