Coach it is really unfortunate that Ranwick is the only club missing players through injury or rep duties. Feel so sorry for you, you will have to wait until the next Aussie schoolboys side is picked so you can get some reinforcements

As the coach has already said on the shute forum, rats took all grades in a spirited display of commitment, rat cunning and home ground advantage.
Fourths had the rats get to 12 - 5 and any hope of a wicks revival was dashed by handling errors at crucial times. The wicks need a reset as the team relied on a couple of standout individual performances to keep in the game.
Thirds a carbon copy of the fourths with even more handling errors. Out enthused at the breakdown by a Rats team at every turn made for the Wicks going down 27-14
Seconds had two good teams going at each other but the rats had done their homework and had the wicks game plan under control. They had the rucks and they had the breakdowns getting many turnovers, some with questionable legality but all well hidden.The introduction of Mark Gerrard put a level of excitement into the rats team as he gave a master class in the art of kicking. In the end , the pressure they put on wicks prevented wicks from getting any momentum resulting in a 29-14 loss.
Firsts
Wicks started well with a try but missed the conversion but then the rats immediately hit back with a try of their own. The Rats were happy to go wide early as the Wicks went up the middle. With the early loss of the 10 the rats had to rally and as they piled on pressure at the breakdown they got a penalty, missed the conversion and then got another which they kicked. Wicks looked good when going out wide but Rats had their cover defense working well, snuffing out some promising runs. Wicks get a try to go 12-8 but a deft chip kick had the rats score again 13-12. Wicks get back to back penalties and convert to go 15-13 but have errors starting to creep in. A missed throw here, a dropped ball there and Wicks lose momentum and allow the Rats to start getting more confidence which grows as a yellow is given to wicks. At this point the rats scrum has ascendancy and after numerous resets which lasted over 8 minutes, the rats are over, 27-15.
The rats are full of running but the Wicks fight back is on . 27-20 with 10 minutes to go. Rats slowing the Wicks ball was paying dividends as the Wicks tried to push passes but they held on the attack. Finally as the siren sounded the Wicks were over next to the posts , an unlikely draw ? No
the man was held up.
Next week the Wicks will have a massive day at Coogee.

Another beautiful sunny day at Coogee with a degree of excitement as
Fourths run out. Easts had already won fifth grade and came out firing in fourths. Wicks discipline had them earn three yellows for the game and at one stage down to 13 men for 8 minutes. Wicks defense was very good and they won the game 11-5 on the back of it.
Thirds Easts came out of the blocks to be 14-6 up with two tries when Wicks scored two quick ones of their own to take easts by surprise.The second half had the easts bigger men slowly getting on top and with 15 minutes to go the score was 21-20 to easts. As easts went to their strength with rolling mauls and scrum dominance the backs were given plenty of ball to take out the win 47-20
Seconds Easts had the bigger men with two huge front rowers so Wicks had to battle hard to keep the big men from running. .Again Easts played to their strength which was their big men to free up their backs and this allowed them to take the game 32-24. As usual , the Wicks team comeback was inspiring but easts held on.
Firsts
Two very good sides , hell bent on winning made for a tough opening half and at 10-10 Easts probably had the edge. Again they seemed 15kg a man larger than the Wicks. Easts started to use their weight and proceeded to get two tries and things were looking ominous for Wicks at 24-13. An against the feed try by wicks gave them starch to go back on attack and after some very good phases the Wicks were in again 27-24. Easts went back to their strength and got pay dirt with a long rolling maul 31-27. Wicks back on attack with everyone stepping up a gear and the scrum finding some dominance gets the Wicks in again with what looked like a pushover try. 34-31 with 6 minutes to go and an easts player in the bin.
Easts on the attack again after a dropped ball by the Wicks - heart stopping stuff and thoughts of Manly are fresh in the crowds mind. Wicks use their scrum dominance to get the ball back and showing maturity held on to the ball until the bell . A good win for the Wicks but a great game from both teams.

Interesting that another veteran Patrick Phibbs came off the bench in 1sts. Following the comeback by Adam Freier and the brief cameo by Stephen Hoiles a few weeks ago, who's next --- Morgan Turinui, Warwick Waugh, Jock?

Norths hosting the Wicks had fourths playing on the top field.
Both teams tried hard to give the opposition a leg up with dropped ball the order of the day. Norths had the better of the game and were 10-0 to the bell with the Wicks finally getting over the line for a 5 pointer -
Thirds was a fiesty game with Wicks earning three yellow cards and Norths one which was very close to a red. The Wicks scrum had some dominance towards the end which enabled them to take out the win 17-7 with some good backing up of the breaks.
Seconds was the game of the day. Both teams played generous attacking football with the speedy Norths wingers scoring on the edges and the Wicks again going up the middle and backing up well. Both defence systems were well tested and with Norths ahead 32-29 the Wicks trade mark late run on the bell saw them steal a dubious grounding to take the game 34-32
Firsts was a dour game with defense the order all day. Norths made some good breaks out wide but the Wicks scrambling was very good. Norths choked the Wicks to take out the win 12-10 and well done to them.
Wicks will need their big game next week.

Dont despair Randwick Faithful. Firsts have lost 4 games - 2 by 2 points, 1 by 3 & 1 by 5. In all games they coulda shoulda won.
They do need to fix some small things. Discipline must be up there - the game yesterday had the referee blowing us off the park with 6 penalty goals.
Come on boys - you can do it!

A cold miserable start to the day saw Wicks fifths taking the win in a somewhat physical match. It is a great club effort to put out a fifths team.
Fourths had a much better day with good concentration and handling considering the cold and wet conditions. A 17-8 scoreline was a fitting result for them.
Thirds - Nothing to see here - move along.
Really bad conditions with cold , cold rain and wind. Hard tackling by souths and dropped ball by both teams had an exciting northern hemisphere 3-0 scoreline to Souths
Seconds had the weather clearing and both teams were able to play rugby. There was a lot of dropped ball from kicks which will worry the coaches but the passing game was pretty good. 29-18 to Wicks but seven against was from an intercept by the very speedy souths winger. A good performance under the circumstances.
Firsts and the rain had gone and the sun came out as both teams ran on. The game was in balance throughout with both sets of defense working well. Attack was hard and some of the resultant kicking not quite good enough. As Macca has said, penalties were the winner. The Wicks could have taken a penalty in front with 2 minutes to go and this would have seen a draw but instead they chose to trust their game plan and went up the line for a throw in. They almost scored but knocked on, on the line, after the bell.
No doubting the commitment only some of the execution.Lost 20-23

Strong Wicks side named for Saturday v Beasties --- Andrew Kellaway, Reece Robinson and David Horwitz all named, but no Ned Hanigan (injured?). Freier, Phibbs, Hoiles all on the bench as well as Starkey, Anderson and Tuala.

Harrison Goddard scored 35 points (3 tries and 10 conversions) in 2nds agst the Pirates. I know Gareth Smith kicked 13 goals agst the Rats back in 2003 and that's the most goals kicked in 1sts for the Wicks but does anyone know what the most points in a match in any grade is?

Unfortunately this sad fact is probably on the records at every club, and at every grade at said club across Sydney bar one.

Bloody good effort from young Goddard. There was some talk (or fear) that the Bunnies had signed him up for this years U20 competition. Well done by the Wix recruiters to save him from the dark side. I reckon the young bloke has a very very bright future ahead of him if he continues to apply himself to the art of Rugby.
