The Bok team pretty much a settled combination, the nice thing at the moment for SA Rugby is the amount of young players coming through the S14 structure ladder.

Myself obvious a bit biased towards my team , the Stormers and thought I'll ask the neutrals from this forum to give me their thoughts on our players.

Not necessary S14 form but give me the players you think have been good enough if we have injuries to lay at test level.

I'll have a shot, haven't seen all the saffa games so I'll just put in the blokes I've seen and been impressed by.

Is Bismark not available? Is "Smith" John Smit? Olivier at 12 and 13?

Have you already resigned to losing Du Plessis?
Yep Bismarck will miss the TriNations due to neck surgery. Maybe a good thing, I think with the amount of players coming through hopefull Snor will give others a change to get to test level specially with the WC in a years time. I qouted a year back that Bekker is the closest lock you'd get to Matfield, at this very moment it will be a tragic if he dont share the test work load between the two, to give them a bit of a break.

Ja sorry 2 is John Smit (I keep on mixing the smitte), understand he also will go today for a neck scan, so maybe he is also gone.

Ja myself feel Meisiekind, Jean de Villiers, and obvious de Jongh is very good 13s and probably their best position. I like the idea of a Grant/JL Potgieter type 12s. Not to sure about JLs defense but he and Meisiekind look pretty good on the weekend. But then the Sharks dont have a midfield.

Sorry to disappoint you he will play hooker with Bismarck out for the season.

Do you a deal though. Wobs can win the scrums and we'll win the S14 and 3N. Happy? :thumb

PS I suspect Smit was likely to pack at LH for the Boks. He was pretty good there for four in a row for the Sharks and it is where he started his career...now it will be hooker prob for the rest of the year.

Lambie is too green. Pieterson is small. Daniller is too dumb, Terrblanceh please no. Aplon is way too small.
Kirchner (Pieterson) - Depth not great at 15
Wings: Habana and vd Heever. Snor has a hardon for the slow Odwa so he will feature. Nokwe and Pietersen injured.

13 (Mossie) de Jongh, Olivier, Ebersohn
De Jonh needs to bulk up but in true SA style a colored player who is good will be rushed in. He will be on the bench I'm sure. Too early but he has great potential. The rest are not up to it
Mossie with de Jongh as backup

12 (Olivier) de Jongh, Bosman, Doppies, Grant, JL Potgieter
Grant has to be on Bok bench. End of story. Problem is Snor doesn't rate him.

10 (Steyn) Grant, Herkie Kruger, JL Potgieter
Steyn and Grant are the only options

9 (FdP) Duvenhage, Januarie, Vermaak, Sarel Potgieter, Kockette
We know it will be Januarie. It should be Duvenhage but it won't be.

8 (Spies) Vermeulen, Alberts, Kankowski,
Has to be Vermeulen after Spies.

7 (Smith) F Louw, F Viljoen, J Deysel, D Potgieter
Jeez both Louw and Deysel on form. Much of a muchness. Smith showed against the Blues that he is far from over.

6 (Burger) Stegman, Baywatch, W van Heerden, Botes, Daniels
Stegman - has to be.
5 (Matfield) Bekker, HalGreave
4 (Bakkies) D Rossouw, Fondse, Sucks, F van der Merwe
I hthink we will see Bakkies, Matfield, BEkker and Rossouw mixed up quite a bit this year. No need to look further for now.

3 (J Doep) Harris, WP Nel, Kruger, JC Janse van Rensb
Please got to SA BJ. We are horribly out of sorts here.

2 (Smith) G Botha, Liebenberg
We know it will be Ralepele.
1 (Beast) Heinke, Blaauw, Guthro, W du Preez
Heinke's career is being destroiyed by the idiot Lions.
Blaauw is my number one. We know it will be beast.

Paarl. Snor seems very unhappy about his Bok assistants. Does this include Muir? Do you think he wants to get ride of Muir and Gold? Get in Coetzee for the backs and someone else for the forwards? Who?

I am not sure we can judge Muir on what the Lions have done, or not done.

Ralepele at Hooker, is that former Bok captain Chillyboy? What's he been up to, haven't heard about him in ages.

Injured whole season. Just about back.

Tough on Gary Botha. He deserves the Bok bench spot. Would make a great impact in the last twenty but alas.... Chiliboy it will be.

Blou Snor have mentioned Proudfoots name for GG, nothing about Muir.

Snor also qouted that he wants to give all the top players a decent run for the WC and want to use the autumn tests as a trial run. Look like hw aant to use some NH players for Wales and want to break the two local tests for Northern (Brutes, Cheetahs, Lions) and southern (Sharks, Stormers) players. I,ll put up my three teams later.

I think the whole first 22 should not tour to Europe this year. Maybe Smit. But rest the lot. Guys like Bismarck and JP who are coming back should bo.

But rest all the others.

No they are playing Wales this (our)autumn up in Cardiff on 5 June, France on Newlands and Italy in two, the S14 final is schedule for 29 June. If the Bulls and Stormers play in the final, no way they'll feature a week later in Cardiff.

So you can expect NH player in Cardiff, a full strength team on Newlands and south & north XV vs Italy.

Maybe teams

Forgot about Jean de Villiers, expect him back this week and will know this week where he'll play. Maybe WP, Sharks or Lions.

Sharks will make most sense. They need a centre, among other things.

Tests act as trials for Boks
2010-04-21 22:37

Stephen Nell

Cape Town – South Africa’s first four rugby Tests this year will serve as extended trials for Springbok coach Peter de Villiers’ search for contenders for next year’s World Cup in New Zealand.

De Villiers told Sport24 on Wednesday that he viewed the matches against Wales (June 5 in Cardiff), France (June 12 at Newlands) and the two Tests against Italy (June 19 and 26 in Witbank and East London) as “four chances to consider which players are good enough to represent South Africa at the World Cup”.

He is planning on picking a team made up largely of South Africa’s northern provinces for the Test in Witbank. After that he will pick mostly from the provinces in the south for the second Test in East London.

“We are not underestimating Italy at all. We have a lot of respect for them and consider them the best scrumming side in the world. They will test us thoroughly in the scrums and we’ll get a good idea of who the best players are in that area,” said De Villiers.

“I’m looking at a northern team in Witbank and a southern team in East London. It does not mean that we won’t pick some guys from the south in the northern side and vice versa. We want to win those Tests.”

No South African player that represents South Africa in the Super 14 final on May 29 will be considered for the first Test of the year against Wales in Cardiff.

As far as that Test is concerned, De Villiers will consider “four or five” players plying their trade overseas, but whom he believes may still be able to add value to the Boks.

“We don’t know how good the overseas players really are because the competitions there are different,” said the coach.

“The best South African team will play against France after that.”

Apart from the players on the injured list, De Villiers hopes to see everyone in action in those games who could possibly be contenders for the World Cup.

“Those four games are of critical interest on the road to the World Cup. By then we would have seen everyone in action.”

South Africa will enter the Tri-Nations (against Australia and New Zealand) with their “best representative team”.

He will first consider players in South Africa, but overseas-based players will be picked if they are better.

“We will consider players in South Africa for the Tri-Nations unless we have a situation where the locally-based player is not as good as the one overseas.”

De Villiers will also identify players that he believes should not play in the Currie Cup until the semi-finals.

“They will not rest, but will be conditioned with a view to next year. They will be available for the semi-finals and final,” he said.

De Villiers hopes to take the 30 players he has identified for the World Cup squad on South Africa’s Grand Slam tour at the end of the year.

“It will be the last opportunity to build a camp around rugby prior to the World Cup. If the players gel the way I think they can, we’ll have cohesion the next time we tour.”

De Villiers realises there is an inherent risk to all the changes he will be making from week to week in those four Tests, but believes it’s in the best interests of South African rugby.

“My ability as coach will be tested because I have a week to build a team. I know I may be shooting myself in the foot if my aim is to set records, but it’s the right thing for South African rugby.”

Wow, there is some great depth there, especially if you also think about the Northern Hemisphere and injured players too.

The locks and centres are second to none when it comes to depth - even the second choice players would be world class....you could probably add the scrum halves to that list too.

No way is Beast even in the top 2 LHPs.

In the 7s there is Smith then daylight for me.

Juan is world class and experienced but still to pick between Flo, Deysel, Wikus and Potgieter is a nightmare. Flo and Dewald is versatile and young and would make most international teams.
