Bollocks,

Homebush is longer way out and after you have been at the pub's there it's then a fair way to get back to wherever you are staying. Plus Homebush cuts off beer not long into the second half (well played Suncorp)

For the visitors to town for it, it is a must to have it near the city. There are not a enough decent places to have a beer at after.

Who want's to travel? Being able to walk from Stadium, pub and accom is the way forward. No waiting on the platform, the first pub is a short stroll from the SFS.

Nope from central, the train is a scheduled 20 minutes, it's 13 minutes from central to stray field then 7 to olympic park. Not far put at all. I live an hour away. There is a great pub at stray field I you jump off the train, then a ten minute cab ride or 7 minute train ride to the brewery or overflow bars, stadium is right there. The first pub is closer than the first pub at the sfs. So is accommodation if you stay at home bush.

It's not the greatest stadium in the world, but it isn't the horror story people make out, it's a large event stadium, it's what happens when that is multiple purpose

The sfs is a 15-20 minute walk past a dozen pubs from central or a 5 minue shuttle bus ride from central or 20 minutes from circular quay, again, pretty decent.

With Gregory's Street Directory going out of print, wj, have you given any thought to publishing an alternative directory of Sydney where all the reference points are pubs? It looks as if you might be able to put it together from memory.

Mate I was there for the biggest event (Opening Ceremony Olympics and the closing), been there for Rugby and other events with unlimitted access to all parts of the stadium. It is IMO just a poor venue for Rugby and I wasn't that impressed with it for the Olympics from a Sports spectatorship POV. The key with the Olympics was its very special atmosphere which like the 2003 RWC there, was a bit of a one off, it has never had the same vibe since. I hate the place and even though coming from country NSW it is a damn sight easier to get to for me, the SFS is a far better stadium for Rugby, smaller crowd yes, but close to the action and more of a cauldron. Plus if you aren't just into drinking copious amounts of cheap piss the pubs in Paddo do a better, traditional rugby meal and then a nice stroll to the stadium in one of the nice parts of Sydney.

U will have to come with us next year Bruce. We managed a 15 pub crawl from the rocks this year but ran out of time and had to cab it in the end. I'm sure your involvement could definitely raise the conversation a little.

Seriously, who want's to stay out at Homebush? Most people leave because they have to start going home. If the ARU had an after match presentation in a park with entertainment it would be great! But they do not. Plus if you want to have a beer near the city and you are in Rugby gear the pubs won't let you in. If the Rugby is on at the SFS they all know and they try and accommodate everyone.

Like i say if your accom, pub and game are all nearby you can experience the city as a visitor. If you had never been to Sydney before (and it is a big place if you are not from here like us) would you rather look at the Blue Mountains at homebush in the distance or be a less than half an hour walk to the harbour?

Be half an hour walk from. The harbor, a twenty minute train ride from the game.

There is always band at the brewery after. There is. Food market on Olympic boulevard. During bigger events they also open the overflow park and have a band, all ages bar going for families.

I prefer the sfs, the point I'm making is home bush is far from being as crap as some people make out.

The best part about Homebush is that you can buy gozleme on the way to and from the ground.

Considering I live round the corner from the SFS, I wish every match was there though.

You get two tests a year and people moan about a 25minute train ride. FFS! Talk about spiolt, try living in an area dprived of first claas rugby.

We are trying to keep up with QLD. Best place to watch Rugby in the country (something i hate saying as a proud NSW person)

Hopefully this will get us in the right direction.

Homebush is a shithole, the only thing that makes it bearable is they whack on buses from pretty well my doorstep to the ground, so you get to sit in a shitty government bus in the bad traffic

I can get the "boss" to come to the SFS for less than a Bled game as I can get to see games at the SFS due to it's closeness to decent bars and edible food before/after the match dodging traffic accordingly.

Homebush has crap atmosphere when it's anything but packed (which is rare) and the viewing is nearly as bad as an oval ground. i haven't been to the sfs before so i can't comment on the difference's between the two but my experiences at homebush have been awful and i would rate it as one of the worst grounds in Australia, baring maybe Etihad or subiaco.

It's all Le Fuse's fault that AAMI will cost a truck load to upgrade.

Bloody props, shouldn't be architects.

I would be happy to come down from Brisbane for the Reds game first up next year if there was such a pub crawl on offer.
